i will now thank you once you invest is it easy to re-invest once you have the serial numbers

The holders number you are issued with is basically the only ID number you need to know/retain. The bonds issued always have identifying serial numbers and you are in no way expected to remember those - just keep the bonds safe when they arrive. The holders number is what you need to know to make further purchases basically...

Its worth getting the winnings re-investement form as has just been mentioned, again requested using the same phone number. This basically means each monthly win (upto £5000) will automatically get reinvested straight away and be entered into the draw the folowing month without any waiting period as described before....unless of course you want the cash...depends what your looking to get out of the bonds as an investment(!?) really...

If you look at the prizes paid out the vast majority are £50 with very few even at £100 let alone the bigger prizes, there are now only 11 x £10,000 prizes and considering that there are in excess of 38 billion bonds in circulation the odds of winning over £50 are very slim indeed!
  • £50 - 5K holding, thats £200 in 5 draws had them since the oct draw - beginners luck! ?

    50 quid in January - holding 27k......

Been putting 50 quid per month in on a DD - in 2008 received 1250 in winnings....all reinvested.....

Can someone point me at a formula to work try and work out rate or return.....Can then throw it into my spreadsheet which I record Purchases / Wins etc in.....
What should I put in here that won't upset people.........

An off the cuff quick calculation/estimate....(ignoring the fact that you have been increasing it monthly by £50 and auto-reinvesting any winnings).

    (wins / holding) x 100 = percentage gain

    so...

    (1250 / 27000) x 100 = 4.62% gain

But thinking about it a little more...before you started the year and ignoring the 12 months of extra £50 purchases the % figure will be a little higher still...

    27000 - 600 -1250 = £25150 assumed holding at begining of 12 months ago

    so (1250 wins / holding of £25150) x 100 = 4.97% gain over 12 months ~roughly

not too bad excluding the monthly added £600 of course!

Could prob work it out with the monthly addition, but no time spare at the mo!!

Hope that helps somewhat...I managed to achieve a 6% return on my holding for 2008 - not off to a great start for 2009 though... hope it improves over the next few months, but does not look promising...

  • I have holdings of £2467 I bought £1000 in March 08 and another £1000 in August 08 - I won 3x£50 in October 08 and another £50 January 09, on both blocks.I was originally given £100 in a will in the early 80s which won £500 within a few months!...but nothing since then...I'm now putting in £100 per month.Phil
