We are eating out of the freezer tonight. It is nice to think of the senior management team of ASDA Eastlands enjoying a hassle-free Bank Holiday weekend.......

I understand everyone's experience of Home Shopping throughout the UK differs, but ASDA Home Shopping working out of Eastlands is not fit for purpose. ....... Action is often better than words... and today I am left truly speechless...

Just to add my recent experience of ASDA home shopping - booked to deliver to holiday cottage in Northumberland on night of arrival - call from their call centre in South Africa (!) to tell me wouldn't arrive that night - driver off sick. Reluctantly agreed time for next morning - waited endlesslessly, had to make umpteen phone calls (seemed to be a dispute between the home depot and South africa as to whose job it was to let me know there were problems - van breakdown this time).

Ended up very angry, wasted a day and a half of my holiday hanging about for them, incurred call charges etc etc - finally cancelled the order as still couldn't guarantee delivery that day. I generally use Tesco, but they wouldn't deliver to this particular address, so we opted for ASDA who assured us they would. Letter now gone to their Head Office telling them in no uncertain terms what I thought of their service - or lack of. I understand problems happen, but I was really annoyed about the lack of communication which wasted so much of my precious week's holiday.

Ironically, just got the free delivery code in an email. Not planning to use it in a hurry.

  • I have been on this forum a while, but have never posted on this thread before. I have never had a problem with the staff at Eastlands, the first time they were late was last Wednesday but only by about 15 mins, and the driver apologised straight away. My products always have a long shelf life and substitutes are always an equivalent of what i ordered. I like my service, which is why i find it shocking that some people get such shoddy service. I live in Hyde, so would be interesting to see where abouts other people are as I'm sure it must be route dependant on the drivers you get. I also always get my shopping delivered on a Wednesday in the 6-8pm slot. My shopping is always for around £200 so not as if I only get a few things. I have 4 children under 6 so was finding it difficult to get to the supermarket and just have 1 trolley. I can honestly say if it wasn't for Asda Home delivery it would take me almost 2 hours to do my shopping, which it used to.
  • Hyde!!!! Usually Thursday, sometimes Friday always 6-8. I'm not saying it's bad all the time, but when it is it's spectacularly bad. I have just got my £26 refund from 31 JULY by insisting that they pay it to my account in the form of e vouchers. I had asked on 4 occasions for them to refund my card and each time waited 7-10 working days as they advised it would take that long to process, only to find that they had not processed it in the first place.

The e vouchers hit my account within 5 minutes of the call, so that was good and all £30 can be used against my next order.
  • Asda Eastlands are appalling. I used them 3 times and each time problems. The last delivery was the worst, I got a call from the driver saying that I would have to come down (I live in a tower block) and collect my shopping as he had no trolley for the delivery boxes! I went down and explained that it wasn't my problem he had no trolley as I had paid for it to be delivered to me thats what I expect. After I called the store where someone took a message. I then decided to call the call centre in South Africa who advised that this was bad service and they would get the store to call. Well I got a call from a very rude woman asking why I called the call centre when I had called the store, I advised that since the store is so useless at calling people back I decided to try a different route. She said I had swore at the driver (which I didn't) and that I should just go and use Tesco if I wasn't happy! She said she was just going to talk to the store manager and then he came on the line and said that they didn't want to deliver to me anymore so I should use someone else! Disgusting people and service. They do not like complaints at this store.

I like to come and sneek a look at what's happening around the country as I'm an ASDA delivery driver and I've been doing the job for nearly 3 years. I feel bad about the problems some of you are experiencing but it also makes sure I keep on doing things right and keeping my customers happy.

I always ring a customer if it looks like I'll be late for whatever reason, usually half an hour before the end of the time slot, I even ring if it's going to be very close to the time - maybe '5 minutes to the hour' saying I'm on my way.

I also ring if it's more logical to do a 'later slot' delivery early if I'm delivering round the corner or in the same village before moving on to the next village. Usually the customer is glad of it early and I'm frequently being told that they wanted the earlier slot but it was booked up. I do have a regular customer I get a bit niggled at because he wants me to ring up on his mobile half an hour before I'm due to come so he can go home - not sure from where although it's usually a 7 - 9pm slot and there's a pub across the road from his house but 'the customer's always right' and I do as I'm asked.

I deliver to rural areas with often a 15 minute drive between areas which can give us problems as we zig-zag from village to village and the same village may have deliveries with different time slots but our regular customers don't mind as long as we keep them informed, I ring them as many times as is needed to update them on my expected arrival time.

No driver should 'forget' any of your shopping and, if you go to the back of the van, you should see the driver scan your boxes of shopping off his/her van. The boxes have bar codes on them which are specific to YOUR order. With the paperwork they have the driver is able to see how many boxes each customer has.

Problems sometimes occur when the driver scans your boxes whilst still 'in place' on the back of the van, goes into the fridge/freezer for your boxes but then goes back to the ambient but doesn't get the boxes he/she has scanned but maybe the boxes next to them.
This can be totally avoided by the driver identifying your boxes, dragging them to the back of the van near the steps, then, and only then, scanning them. The hand-held computer will bleep when scanning the boxes, confirming that it is part of your shopping They also make a different bleeping noise if it's the wrong box!! If, and it sometimes happens, the computer stops working, the driver should check the boxes against the 'delivery manifest', which lists the barcode numbers of each box a customer has.

This was the way I was trained to do it and this is the way I always do it. So far (touch wood) I've never delivered the wrong shopping to the wrong customer. I'm sure the driver won't mind if you go to the back of the van and ask, I know I don't.

What I really dislike is houses with NO NUMBER!! Please make sure your house numbers are visible from the roadside, please? please?

p.s. I'm dreading the naked deliveries! Don't know when they'll start!
