I assume you are going to Dunriell? We have been 6 times.

It is an excellent site and if you have kids they will think it is brilliant.

    couple of things:

    - e-mail Keycamp and ask to be placed in the MIddenvel (Middlefield)
    - don't rely on credit cards, take cash
    - if going to Amsterdam - use the Park and Ride system - cheap - KC will give you details on site
    - supermarket (C1000) is in the town and is a new modern shop with everything you could want - prices a little unsure but i don't remember it being that expensive.
    - Hire bikes and cycle to Schrivergn beach/pier through the dunes - wonderful exercise before you have some lovely chips and ice-cream !!
    - do not think you are quick enough to get out of the way if you stand in front of the 'cubicle' of the Splash ride, you will probably fall over and look a fool and get very very wet !

    enjoy your trip.

Hi Htc, we are going to Dunriell with Keycamp in July and was just wondering what the advantages are at being located at 'MIddenvel (Middlefield)'

    Many thanks JJ
  • We've been to Duinrell a few times over the last 5 years - more recently have always booked a Duingalow (Chalet) directly with Duinrell as it has worked out considerably cheaper.

A must day out is Walibi World, formerly Six Flags Holland. Goliath is not to be missed.

should show you a map of the site, you will see that the Middenveld is well located for all the amenities, and much better than being placed up in the 'forest' area, as in there you will get very little sun (and it's going to be baking hot, right !!) also if the weather is against you and it's raining/windy you won't have bits of tree falling on your roof all night !

Mind you, depending on the accommodation you have booked you may not be able to stay in the Middenveld it is certainly worth asking. I have always asked and been allocated to there (staying in a Villagrand) and if you are in one of the few tents they have on site you will be in this area anyway.

    Hi All

I have just booked to go to Duinrell for 1st week in June. Reviews look really good and kids v excited. Just hoping the weather won't be as bad as June last year in Holland as they had horrendous floods !!!!! Not expecting it to be hot, but hoping there won't be too many rainy days.

We are staying in Brussells on the way there, 7 nights in Duinrell and then a couple of days in Bruges on the way back. Also planning trips to Amsterdam, Efteling, Rotterdam. Anyone any ideas of other good places to visit for families in Holland/Belguim?

    Thanks

Arnhem may be worth a visit Have a look at these sites to see if it interests your family:-

Public transport in Holland is the very best and very cheap compared with the UK. It is best to get a "strippenkarte" (can't find the link at the moment but ask at the tourist office, and I am sure the camp site will have details) before travel on buses and trams. Otherwise buy tickets from driver or conductor on trams, although much more expensive than strippenkarte.

Rail travel is unbeleiveabley fast and reliable and cheap walk on services (unlike the UK). The children will want to travel on the double decker trains. The only problem with rail travel is that you MUST board the train with a ticket, or face a large fine. Only the larger stations have a booking office. Other stations have ticket machines that ONLY take Maestro debit cards - no credit cards. I think there are famiky tickets, and offers on group travel from time to time.

I just though i'd add that we had a FANTASTIC time!!
The weather was scorching (first week in May), the site brilliant and the tulips beautiful.
The kids were on the go 24/7 and can't wait to go back.

Hope you have a good time!

Anyone else gonig to Duinrell should check out the other companies with mobiles there are look into a duingalow with Duinrell itself.

We have been there 4 times and are going again at the end of August hopefully, this time with www.happycamp.com as their mobiles are only €60 per night and can be booked for any number of nights.

We went to de Kampervennen which is a Center Parcs.
I have to say that it was awesome. The dutch are friendly, thier english is good and the country is lovely and flat so even I could ride a bicycle without dying of exhaustion.
We paid with credit card (Nationwide of course!) more often than not, so not sure why there is a credit card problem.

Oh, and btw - the pancakes were awesome....
Going to have a look at Duinrell now as we havent decided on our August holiday....

You shouldn't need to do much day tripping from Duinrell as the place has so much to offer you do not need to leave, except to visit the 2 local supermarkets or the 2 pancake restaurants on the street outside.

Go to the Atomium / Brupark area in Brussels. Go on a boat trip in Bruges and perhaps the dolphinarium / zoo there.

Near Duinrell, you have the beach nearby which you can walk or cycle to or Scheveningen down the road on the bus and tram or by car, Madurodam is accessible by bike, Delft, Leiden is a bike ride away, Amsterdam by train or by car then park and ride on the rapid transit, the national railway museum in Utrecht. I can't see the point of doing Efteling as Duinrell has its own theme park already. You really must hire some bikes, or go-karts or bollerwagons and you need to get there early each day if you want the go-karts as they get hired quickly. Give Rotterdam a miss.
