Clarification needed - are 0871 numbers free on 3?

I've seen conflicting posts as to whether 0871 numbers are free if used on 3 contract phones monthly free minutes.

On the 3 website is says they aren't free, but, several users are reporting that they are.

I'm awaiting my e2save.com £4.50 3 phone - it would be nice to know if I can call abroad using the derth of 0871 providers or if this phone will be relegated to calling cross network mobiles only.

Thanks,

Riz

  • Yes they are, well they're on my bill. I take it 0870 numbers are still charged at 10p/min?

Why would 0871 be free and 0870 be chargeable? ???

0871 cost more and pay more revenue. I think that's got to be a billing error.
  • This is what I don't understand DonnyDave.

You are correct, it doesn't make sense that the 0871 are not billed for, yet, 0870 are.

Can 3 back date the charges if they realise this is a billing error in their system?

I have been a Three customer for almost a year. The 0871 numbers should be charged. They were not being.

In fact they were reducing my credit as I was making internation calls using 0871. Until last month, when I was landed with a bill for £90.00 for 0871 calls. When I queried this, they said that there had been a billing error for the past 6 months, but they were only going to bill me for the past 3 months. After lots of arguing, they reduced it to £60.00 as a one off gesture of goodwill.

    They will catch onto you!

  • I rang customer services ages ago after I noticed they seemed be coming off my free minutes and they assured me they were included, so if they decide to bill me I will take them to court.

rupin when did you have this bill?

  • Doesnt seem as if 3 know what is charable and what isnt.

Hope the people who get the numbers free arent going to receive a bill when/if 3 catch onto it and find their mistake (if it is one)

It was last month. I had a conversation with them about 6 months ago when I first started using 0871 numbers and asked how much it would cost.

I was told 10p per minute. I was happy to pay this, and was pleasantly surprised to see they were free on my next bill.

I was aware of how much I should have been charged, so wasn't unhappy to get away with 3 months and a third of it at that!

Calls abroad will be from my landline in future!

  • As I've been using qxdial I expect I'm going ot be landed with a bill for over £100, great. I'll definately be taking them to court if this happens, I have no other option.

  • Received my 7600 from e2save.com day before yesterday.

Interestingly, e2save.com give a printed sheet of 3's call charges in the package.

In the small print, it says that calls commencing 087 are NOT part of the inclusive minutes. (Note: it says 087 only, and, does not specify 0870 or 0871).

So... you could say we've been warned. I still don't understand how 3 allows these calls to be counted as your free minutes only to charge at a later date.

Also, as a side issue. This is my 2nd phone from e2save.com. What comeback would we have to Carphone Warehouse if e2save.com goes bust due to offering too many cashback deals?

Okay if three decided to start including 087 and 084 numbers as my inclusive minutes I could "intepret" it as a sign that I will not be charged.

If at a later date I find that I receive a back dated bill, I will be able to take them to court?
