Help!! Hyperactive dog is driving me mad.

This morning my little man came running full pelt into the bedroom at 7am jumping on me and running about the bed. I have taken him on a walk which normally tires him out but now we are home he is literally running around the house like a mad dog  . He's been up and down the stairs and is like a whirlwind. Is there anything anyone can suggest to help calm him down, i'm having to stand clear of his path for fear of been knocked over :rotfl:

Has he had any Easter Eggs? This sounds like Missy was when she got some cocoa. If he has, phone your vet for advice as chocolate can be poisonous/fatal.

Also - do you have snow? Strange weather can affect some dogs and send them a bit hyper.

How about giving him a really yummy stuffed Kong or another treat dispensing toy - or at a pinch, put a handful of dried complete food in an empty 2 litre pop bottle (take the lid off) and let him loose in the garden with it to burn of the tickle in his toes........
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Lol sounds a bit like my scottie. When he needs attention he certainly lets you know.

He is a bit of a live wire, and when he is due to be clipped I give him Skullcap and Valerian tablets for about a week before. They are herbal and very calming. They were reasonably priced at around £5 for a months supply from the vet, but I believe they are exactly the same as given in the health shops.

For a quick fix put a few drops of Bach's Rescue Remedy in his drinking water, again from health shops. I swear by this on bonfire night :D

Nope, no easter eggs or chocolate. Have given him his kong which also went flying about the room with him. He has been out nose diving in the snow but has finally decided he's going to settle in the washing basket full if my lovely clean washing
I think he might have got abit excited as we went away on holiday last week with him, maybe he's just happy to be home :rotfl: At least I can breathe for 5 minutes now :D I am keeping an eye on him though as he has epilespy and i'm wondering if this is a sign of a fit coming on.

  • my dog acts like this when we has a fit coming on too!
Maybe he is however just having a very exiting day :)
You could always just pop him out in the garden for an hour and wait for him to wear himself out! lol

I've had this all day :rotfl: . He did go to sleep for about half an hour but apart from that has wanted to play, jump all over me and run about the house. The cat's aren't helping either as they keep chasing him  . I think he's just having an exciteable day.

Well he's still at it and i'm quite worried now. It seem's to be something to do with his paws that is irritating him. I've had a look as best I can and they are not cut or anything. I put him in the bath to soak them but he's quite distressed and won't stop cleaning them  Can i put vasaline or anything on them?

I wouldn't put vaseline on them... if there is something on there that is causing him discomfort you could be sealing it in for starters... Have you tried Bachs rescue remedy? If not then tomorrow I'd say call the vets if he's still at it.

Thanks tine, we don't have any rescue remedy and no shops were open today, i will get some tommorow. I'm wondering if he has salt stuck somewhere as it snowed today and the paths and roads were gritted  .

It is certainly a possibility... especially if he's got some tiny cuts on his paws already...
You might find he's fine in the morning and has forgotten all about it :) if not then I'd think about getting the vets to have a look... it COULD be something more serious so if it persists do take him to the vets...

Will definately take him tommorow if it's still not any better and if he gets worse tonight I will ring the emergency vet. He's asleep atm. Thank you for your advise.
