Supermarket stealth pricing

I appreciate goods have to rise in cost and as supermarkets only make about a 500 million a year profit and couldn't possibly absorb even a 1p rise on anything, i understand those costs are passed on to us, the consumer.
What i do have issue with though is the stealth rises.
Why can't these large companies just be honest enough to hang a large sign up at the door saying;
'We are very sorry but as you know, living here in the UK is a tad expensive and as fuel and raw material costs are rising across the world, our prices have to reflect that. Don't be surprised if you find that we've added a 15% price increase to everything in this store, recurring at least every three weeks'
Or something to that effect. At least then these supermarkets would be treating their customers with a discernible amount of respect and civility and harmony should endure. What actually happens is that not a mention is made anywhere (as far as i can tell) and all the prices have simply just gone up. You pay x one week for a product only to buy again the next week to find x has had y added to it to make z which is always more:mad:
Or something is the same price but with less of it, making it more expensive:mad::mad:
WHICH MAKES EVERYONE MAD!!!!!!!!
I appreciate rising costs (although i think more could be done to absorb costs, like not employing 15 checkout managers and supervisors whose only role seems to be standing at the plinth talking into those ridiculous headsets they wear, and not actually doing anything constructive) but they should at least have the common decency to let us, the consumer, know clearly that prices have gone up.:mad::mad: Rant over but in no way forgotten:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Come on supermarkets, treat your customers with a least a small amount of civility. We're not all wuckfits who don't notice what you're up to:rolleyes:

I guess only way to beat the system as it were, is to shop around showing no particular loyalty to any supermarket. Only buy offers where possible. But you are right annoying kind of like being held to randsom, because ofcourse we all need to eat and feed the family. It will get to the stage where only the value stuff is selling as no one can afford to buy anything else. Welcome to rip off Britan!! Have a good Easter.Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.

Prices are clearly displayed on the shelf edge label and pack sizes are shown on the packaging.
The media is full of information on inflation at the moment. Indeed, you appear to have access to the intenret and are therefore able to research prices at your leisure before you go shopping.
The supermarkets are not raising prices stealthily
I would advise you stick to your local corner shop or support your local shops if you don't like supermarkets. Nobody is forcing you to shop at any supermarket.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
But it's not the display of prices is it, you twit. It's the RISE in prices. It appears by stealth, almost weekly. Thanks for your input but as my post was about the apparent disdain the supermarkets have by not telling you themselves, your post isn't welcome.0

Hard luck. This is a public forum so it is irrelevant whether you welcome my post or not.
There's only one twit on this thread and I've just quoted him.
Where's the stealth??? Prices are clearly displayed and it is well known that prices are rising.
Like I said, NOBODY is forcing you to shop at supermarkets. You are free to choose to shop elsewhere.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

So if you think Supermarkets are so evil then why don't you use Butchers/Greengrocers/Farm Shops?0

You seem to fail to mention BOGOF's and promotions, not everything is going up in price, and its hardly stealth prices are clearly displayed on the shelves0

What industry do you work in? I bet it has a higher profit margin than Supermarket retail at around 4/5%!
So does that mean your industry has stealth profits?
Has it occured to you that sometimes wholesale prices change that frequently so this is why the retail price is changing?0 -
