  • I just love this, was beginning to feel very inadequate after hearing all about those with shelves of home-made jams, hand-knitted clothes etc - thank goodness some of you are human! Let's face it we all have days when we can't be bothered, in the immortal words of Shirley Conran, I'd rather sit on a sofa than clean under it............My tips if you have guests coming and the place is a tip is to make sure the front door and outside area is clean and tidy, stick a bit of scented polish on the door at nose-height so they whiff it as they come in, do a hasty run round downstairs and sling everything "cluttery" in a black bin-liner to be shut in the bedroom and sorted out later, straighten up cushions etc, and put some fresh coffee on to make the house smell nice. Oh, and do make sure the loo is clean and leave the window open in there if it is a bit "stale".

    Cheers, Juliav50

I just love reading this thread, makes me feel much better. I've never liked housework and can always think of far better and interesting things to be doing. Times are hard enough without us feeling bad for not having cleaned thoroughly every day/week or whenever.

Keep meaning to clean the bedroom which is so dusty if I sneeze or blow at the dust a cloud appears! Still, only me and hubby see that room so it wait a while longer ;)

Actually did make some cakes yesterday which was a complete shock to the system (best part of a year since I last made any) and I got in a total chaotic mess, I just don't do domestic, it's not for me!! LOL

Life is for living, not cleaning ;)

When my kids were all at home all the clean socks went into a huge bag & Sunday evening was sock sorting time, you either helped or wore odd socks.

My 18 year old DS has never understood why socks have to match so just picks out 2 and puts them on .As he says no one sees them !

    My toilet is dusty.

I thought this was only mine. My mother's house is ALWAYS spotless even though it's three times the size of our rental. You could eat your dinner off any part of any room and I would die to have mine the same - I've NO idea how she does it.

We're house-hunting at the mo and I'm choosing houses that look immaculate like my mothers in the hope that they'll stay that way after we move in......always strived over the 'show home' cleanliness/tidyness but have never achieved it - I have too much junk I don't want to throw (and can't sell) and am too lazy! :o

In other words, a proper home and not a showpiece. Many congratulations on the birth of your little daughter, I'm broody now...for more GC I hasten to add!

Started off really well today, went into the garden fully intending to do some tidying but next door's puppy was out playing so I sort of, umm...got sidetracked :p . Then I washed the outside of the car and decided that was enough - the inside looks (and smells) like a dung heap in a heatwave and is staying that way til I pluck up courage to tackle it . So much for the bag of 'fresh rotted compost' I was given by a friend who bought too much yesterday. I did leave the windows open all afternoon though :D.

My confession is my mum has my son at the mo and my little girl is asleep upstairs. I need to get the house tidy and cleaned so what do I do? I come and post on MSE!!!!!!!!
I swear the reason I don't get stuff done is due to me switching on the lap top. I must step away.................................................
