Have been storing excess dirty laundry in black bags - didn't manage to get it to the ironing stage yet

When we had relatives over at Christmas my ironing pile was so high that it fell over and made two piles. I put anything that wasn't needed within a couple of days in a black bin bag and hid it away for the festive season. Oh joy of joys, now I've remembered where I put it, most of it will no longer fit the kids!! I guess that's one way to get out of doing the ironing!

People don't advocate the use of tumble driers because they are expensive to use, however I disagree.
You don't need as many clothes to wear, so there is a major saving and you don't need to use an iron,(they are probably expensive to use), if you take them out of the dryer carefully. This gives you much more time to do what you want, and as we all know, time is money.
Also you don't need to spend money on bin bags piling the washing into before you iron it.
If you are really thrifty, you can put thicker stuff outside on the line to part dry, and finish them off in a dryer thus cutting the cost a bit.
    What does anyone else think?

Agree with you totally. All underwear and shirts go straight in the tumble drier and most shirts don't need ironing unless OH takes them out!
Jeans, jumpers, my blouses, trousers, t shirts are put on airer til nearly dry and then tumbled....generally don't need ironing. Bedding and tea towels go straight in tumbler
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I am in total agreement with you :T I love my tumble drier - it is absolutely essential for my sanity.

Yes, I do feel guilty using it -but you're right it saves so much time and avoids having wet washing hanging around for days on end. Doing things like sheets, duvets and towels is brilliant and quick. Within a couple of hours beds are pristine again and without too much hassle.

Can't say I've quite mastered the art of no ironing at all (although I don't do sheets!) I have two large overflowing baskets waiting expectantly..........

(I think a tumble drier is far more essential than a dishwasher!)

Most definitely - in fact I got rid of my dishwasher as I hated the way I still had to wash certain items by hand and so thought I may as well do all by hand

 I hate people who take their shoes off, we have cream carpets in the hall etc, nothing a carpet cleaner doesn't solve and people think they should take their shoes off, yak, they get told to put them back on, I hate the sight of feet and they smell. I've put a carpet runner down over the carpet to discourage people from exposing their feet.

I hate people that don't take their shoes off in our house. I find it disgusting that someone could have trod of god knows what and trail it all over the floors and then for anyone in the house to trod on the same floor and move it all about the house. Not to mention when DS was a baby/toddler crawling all about the floors.

They can do whatever they like in their own house but it's rude not to offer to take your shoes off when you visit someone elses house. I'd rather have whiffy feet (than dirty footwear) any day! I don't like asking but will if the person hasn't offered/done it.

I had a tax rebate and I spent it on an Omlet Cube.
But it's worth it. It's beautiful, it's easy to clean, and the hens are gorgeous.

I'm so tired- I read this and totallythought you said OXO cube and that you were making a joke about your paltry tax rebate- then got very confused by your comment about cleaning and hens...!!! :rotfl:

Anyway, my admissions... fruit bowl contains 3 bananas, and by the side of it, all the fruit which is going brown and mushy (is it true that bananas make other fruit ripen super-quickly?). This happens every week.

I NEVER iron (unless going to an Important Event).

I frequently leave stuff in the WM over night then bung it in the airing cupboard (or the line) and pray it won't smell too bad.

I had to throw away my 6 month old daughter's dress (one of my favourites!).... she was sick on it and I popped it in the hardly-used real nappy bucket to wash later, forgot it for a week, and it went completely mouldy!!!

OK that's enough therapy for now....

Well...so pleased I found this thread tonight!! At least it's made me realise noone on here is superhuman!!!:rotfl: I've been around these forums for a few years, feeling more & more guilty that I can't do the full OS thing - nice to know that I'm not so awful after all!!:p

    So here's my confessions.....

    - Have a bottle of stardrops in the cupboard - don't like it/use it/rate it
    - Have eaten out once this week & had a takeaway!
    - Kitchen floor desperately needs cleaning, but being dark grey - it hides the dirt well:o
    - Haven't really been cooking from scratch since I went back to work in January:eek:
    - Have a basket full of ironing that needs doing (sheets, quilt covers etc..) am waiting for my mom to come round & take pity offering to do it for me!!! (She does this often!!!!:A )
    - Haven't been keeping up with the grocery challenge/spending diary/budget since I've been back at work - too shattered!!!!!!!
    - Use fabric softner - can't bear the thought of using vinegar!

I could go on...but I think I've confessed enough for now!

Thanks everyone for making me laugh & feel less of a failure!!!!!:j

I found the posts about shoes on or shoes off really strange, in Italy it would be plain rude to go into someone's home and take one's shoes off!

A friend of mine from the UK visited my parents in Italy (while I was somewhere else) and during the day took off her shoes and went to have lunch with them in bare feet (hot summer, cool marble floor, you can't really fault her, it is not like she had smelly feet!).

She told me afterwards that she felt really mortified because both my parents looked at her feet and later mentioned it to each other in Italian (that she was barefoot) thinking she did not understand, but she had enough Italian to understand.

Incidentally, since finding out this shoe lark here in the UK, I always offer to take my shoes off when I visit people I don't know well and the reactions are mixed, some say yes some say no.

    Cultural differences!!!

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
