I have an account with NatWest that I haven't used for about a year with zero balance, do I have the risk of it being closed involuntarily?0 -

no, we don't close accounts that are dormant. The only time you need to pay into an account on a regular basis is when its overdrawn, the bank then expects a credit once a month. If its a student account, then its every 3 months.
Hope this helps.I work in a NatWest branch, any information I provide should be taken as general. See you local branch for advice, but any questions feel free to ask me.0 -
i have been back to branch yes as i was told the request had come from the branch ,the branch are denying the request came from them as are every other department0

well according to the ombudsman they can't just shut an account without sufficent warning and i have recieved a letter with my complaint against the natwest before i have recieved any letter from the natwest telling me that this is what they are going to do .They have not stuck to the code of conduct by just stopping my cards and not informing me0

The bank do close accounts and will send letters out, they can be closed by the bank for the following reasons, debt, death, fraud on the part of the account holder and what is called commercial reasons. The latter reason means a letter is sent out stating this and all cards are withdrawn and any balance remaining ie positive balance will be given to you. The bank are within their rights to close an account and the "commercial reason" while not exactly eye opening is non negotiable. By all means take it further but the account will not be re opened once the decision is made.
We do close dormant accounts btw, but not after a year or any letter being sent to you asking if you still want to keep the account.0 -
You haven't reclaimed any bank charges from Natwest have you? Just another thought to throw into the mix...0

I thought I had asked the pertinent questions earlier in this thread.
I can't help feeling we have a missing piece of the jigsaw - the OP is not telling us something but I'm damned if I know what?0 -
JonesMUFC, I think you have made some valid points on this thread. I am going to ask another question. Have you had any cheques paid INTO your account that have subsequently been returned UNPAID? Just to be clear on the question, not cheques written out by you but cheques received by you.0

Not even if the decision has been made on the basis of incorrect information?Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.
