  • Weere you asked for identification when you opened the account? Was this ok?
What type of account is this?
Did you specify what was going through the account - has anything else (or somebody else's) been paid in like a relative's wages?
  • oh yes i had given my drivers license and all my benefit letters of which there was quite a few as my sons disabled and im classed as his full time carer so they had seen letters from the tax credits with my child taxcredit on it ,my letter for my carers allowance ,my letter for my income support supplement and my sons disability allowance and child benefit letters also a post office statment and my passport ,no one else has anything going through my account part from my sons dla which comes to me anyway as hes only 6 they knew this
it wasn't even a full account was a current plus account with a solo card

You had only been with the Nat West a couple of months - who were you with before and what prompted you to change banks?
  • was with the halifax and changed as found halifax had the worst customer service rate ever and i used to work for a bank and knew some of the things they were telling me when i had problems on my account with fraud were lies you got a different answer to the same question ever time you rang up and never got people ringing you back when required was like pulling teeth

So there was fraud on your account is that right?
If so what kind of fraud?
Has anyone living at your address attempted a fraudelent application for anything - have you checked whether you have a CIFAS marker on your credit file?
  • this was on my halifax account i had fraud and no no one in my house has since theres only me and my 2 young boys and even if i had a cifas i dont know about they wouldve checked that when i was credit scored to see what account i culd have when i opened it

I would certainly check your credit files. Something does not stack up here.
Have you been back to the branch where you opened the account for an explaination.
The only thing that I can think of is that the ID was somehow lost between the branch and the bank's HO or wherever they store the ID data.

Once the account is opened the bank does further checks and if there not happy they are in their right to close the account unfortunatley.
I work in a NatWest branch, any information I provide should be taken as general. See you local branch for advice, but any questions feel free to ask me.

Shame the same doesn't apply to the Tax Payer, firstly they lend the money to the struggling Banks, then if they find that the Banks did not act responsibly in the first place, they withdraw their funding... seems fair to me.:D
