Has anyone had any problems refusing a carrier bag.

I bought some new bras today and thought "maybe I should have got a carrier bag" when I realised the straps were poking out of my own bag! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0

I wouldn't worry about that-nearly 50% of the population wear a bra surely. We worry about the silliest things sometimes. A bag to cober a 12 pack of toile rolls? hopefully we all wipe our bums! I hate the effects on wildlife personally-I also question the release of thousands of baloons at various events-not sure I like that idea either. We are fouling our countryside.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

lol i work in a shop and it's hilarious listening to some of your stories. just so you know, we're not all idiots, where i work, the idea is that we talk people out of using a bag because we charge for them. i've persuaded a lot of people to place their items back in their trolley and put the items straight into their boots of their cars, as this is what they'd do anyway with a bag, followed by the removal of the bag at home, then bin it.
i once pulled out a bag that had already been shaken and opened out, but then it was refused as the customer had thought twice about getting one. next customer wants a carrier, so i pick up the bag ready for use.. the customer then looks at me and says, if i'm paying for a bag, i want a new one....
then there was a customer who didn't want to pay 4p for a medium sized carrier because it had the word small on it so (big labels, small prices)he thought it was a small bag so thought it should be a 2p small carrier. Never the less, had it been a small carrier, i dont think he'd have offered to pay 6p for a small bag because it had the word big on it....
I have had one experience of someone walking out from the till point and leaving their shopping because of the charge. i wouldnt mind, but i was really ill that day and feeling sorry for myself as it was, i then had to re-tag all the items, place them back on their hangers, size cube them correctly and place them back on shop floor, which is fine, but i'm not really a till worker on my shift, i'm usually on stand-by for when it's busy, so i have lots of other jobs to do. Sometimes people like that can really ruin my day and i have to say, had it not been for the kind gentleman i served after her, who made light of the situation, i probably would have burst into tears( most likely pre-menstral). so when you're all in your eco mind-sets and happy to leave trolleys here and there because of a bag charge, just remember, the !!!!!! that has to sort it all out at the end of the day is not the one who introduced the charge in the first place, and is probably cr*pping themselves at what sort of reaction the next person will have at the so-called ridiculous bag charge..
i'm sorry to rant on, but i think it's a fair point to make.
the cashiers that are rude and don't co-operate, in my opinion, are wrongly trained, and if they want to keep their jobs, should sort it out because it gives the rest of us undervalued people a bad name. i take pride in my customer service.0 -
It's odd reading this old thread because I think even over the last 9 months or so opinions are changing in shops. People used to look at me a bit odd when I refused a bag but now they happily accept it. It's amazing how much it has changed in such a short space of time. I'm still looking for my ideal bag though. I love my Onya bags but even they can't hold everything when I get carried away with my bargains0

I have added to my collection a beautiful big pink bag which was a Christmas Special from the Coop. It was dear at £2.50, but it's big and beautiful and so pink (did I mention that before?), and it holds masses! Its first outing was full of Christmas presents for my family.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I agree that retailers' attitudes have changed a lot in a short space of time. Just a year or two ago, a shop assistant in TK Maxx forced me to take a carrier bag, even though I had plenty of room in another bag I was carrying, saying it was store policy or something. I was so taken aback I took the bag. Then going in there more recently, I was a little peed off to see they are now charging for carrier bags!! That sort of 90 degree turnaround brings the words 'jumping on the bandwagon' to mind!0

Tempting...Customer Policy, No Thanks!
Certainly agree opinions are changing.0 -
they might be on a bandwagon, but at least people aren't forced into using bags anymore, and at least the money goes to woodlands trust if any are bought anyway0
