I have a Smeg, and have had no problems with it in the three years I have had it (and it's used every day). Hotpoint used to be a good make, but nowadays I wouldn't go for it.0

I have had many many washing machines. One every 5 years on average. Now I don't want to jinx this one but it is 6 years old and not any problems at all. It is Hoover washer dryer. It was expensive over £400 but I think (hope now I have posted this) that it was money well spent.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Be careful!
The AEG of old is not the same as the AEG you buy now. I had an AEG (bought around 1990) for 12 years when the control panel went. The engineer who looked at the machine said I was unlucky not to have got another five or years use from it. However ... AEG is now owned by Electrolux, so I very much doubt that the components and build of the current AEG models are like the old ones.
Bosch - have definitely introduced lower priced models in recent years. I was surprised to have found a Bosch WM three years ago priced at less than £300. Whilst have had no problems mechanically, the door has fallen off and been replaced already! Again, I suspect that the build quality has been compromised in order to produce more competitively priced machines.
I strongly suggest you find a decent local independent retailer and talk to them as so many brand names are actually the same machines these days! :mad:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

My Bendix lasted 20 years until the door hinge dropped and couldn't be replaced. So I bought a Hotpoint, couldn't bear to have it in the house cos it was so terrible so sold it off and Ibought a Miele 18 months ago and wouldn't ever buy anything else now - fantastic work, quiet and efficient.
Buy cheap... buy twice!0 -

We have an Indesit and its absolute dump! Would never buy one again, the drum is tiny, it doesn't rinse properly, the spin is slow and it is rusting after 2 years.....Candy are pap too
We are saving up for a Miele, someone we know has had one for 25 years and its still going strong so thats our next buy.0 -
Just been looking they are £600+. Im not sure if it works out cheaper to spend that much on a machine that lasts 20 years or buy 3 cheaper ones over that time which will work out the same?Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0

This is so handy! I'm just about to move and need to get a new WM and Fridge Freezer. Glad I read this now as I was looking at a Hotpoint one but don't think I'll risk it. Probably going to go for a Bosch reading the posts as I think a Miele will be out of my budget and I've forgotten the make of the last one I had. Do their fridge freezers get a thumbs up too?

I've had 3 washers. The first, a hotpoint came free with our first house. It was fab and lasted 14 years. Because the first one had cost us nothing (except a couple of brush replacements) I thought I'd splash out on a good machine when it finally bit the dust. I researched different makes and bought a zanussi, quite expensive and absolute rubbish. It kept on going wrong and eventually after 3 years I decided to replace it with the most basic and cheapest hotpoint I could and once again (6 years later)I'm still happy.
I think with hotpoints you either get one that wil last and last or you get a dud one and there's no in betweenI like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0 -
i had an indesit which turned into Niagra falls, i've got a hotpoint i'm currently running into the ground which sound terrible, and is apparently from a bad design. Hotpoint are now owned by the Indesit people so i won't be getting another one.
I'm aiming for the best for my money when i get one, so it may yet be a beko, never had problems (touch wood) with anything else i've had of theirs0
