I wear mine to work but not usually in the house.

Was originally white gold, but having had it removed (along with my wedding ring) at A&E when my hand ballooned I discovered that I'm extremely allergic to white gold. The engagement ring caused a reaction that I hadn't linked to it, and I had it re-dipped when my wedding ring was made. The combination of 2 newly plated rings put me into A&E within hours

So the diamonds got re-set into brand new platinum bands, and they're fine. (There's no nickel in platinum, but varying amounts in white gold and quite a lot in the rhodium plating). Plus I don't wear them much, really.

I wash my hands several times a day which keeps them clean. I don't really bother with any other cleaning products.

Well I got mine back from the jewellers where my wedding ring is being made - my wedding ring is being made to fit the very unusual shape of my engagement ring - and they returned it fully cleaned and polished for me :) So I've left it sitting in the box OH originally presented it to me in until the wedding :)

Mine is from Beaverbrooks, so whenever I am in town I can pop in & leave it for a quick polish :)

It always looks sparkly & new again afterwards....the diamonds really shine too.
  • Mine from 1st wedding is somewhere off in the sea in Cornwall, one from 2nd wedding was thrown out in a field somewhere and I don't plan on getting another one :D

mine seems fine, but then it's normal yellow gold. i like the 'old fashioned' look and had heard a lot about people having to have them recovered. Hadn't even thought about the nickel issue - i'm allergic to that so it's even better that i told OH i wanted yellow gold when he went looking.

What i mean is i wear mine all the time apart from bed time. I now take it off at work in the mornings as i clean and noticed it was dulling underneath, i know no one else can see it but i can!! is this normal? it is white gold and from a lovely jewellers who hand makes them. It has scratched very slightly aswell as i caught it against our garage wall when we moved in!and wonder what on earth it will be like when we marry in 7 months!! I love it though!!
Hello, I know just what you mean but i have had mine now for 10yrs, zoikes! i discovered the worlds best tip on here for cleaning white and yellow gold jewellery last week and wow i feel so enlightened i simply must tell you! ... get a small bowl (small cereal or something?) put a little open parcel of tin foil/baking foil in the bowl, into the foil sprinkle about 2 heaped teaspoons of bicarb.soda. pour into the foil very hot water, previously boiled but not bubbling boiling still, (approx five mins after its boiled is ideal) it'll fizz like mad, thats why its in a bowl incase water etc goes everywhere.. now drop in jewellery, leave it for 10mins, when you pick it out you will be so shocked at the shine and how its removed all/any tarnishing or rubbish. it is safe and cannot harm jewellery or you unless you use absolute boiling water of course. you dont need to buy anything pricey to use. this will amaze you and will work every time, for stone cleaning use a soft toothbrush (i get the kids ones from wilkinsons, they're just pence and soft too) dab on some normal toothpaste (not whitening variety) onto the brush, now brush in and all around the diamond, rinse and you will feel like you've just stepped out of the jewellers you got it all from. enjoy and pass onto everyone its truly amazing! as for scratches and scuffs to the gold though, it will happen, but it kinds of adds to the character, it wont 'ruin' and so long is kept clean it'll always look stunning. i never ever take off my engagement ring (3/4 carat solitair/spelling?) because i've come to realise the truth in the strength of diamonds etc and how it'll damage whatever you bang it into but not damage itself. its soooo true. i had some very tarnished (brassy looking) gold earings that i loved. they're chunky greek key design and i couldnt get them clean no matter what, but the bicarb just fizzes it off! its amazing. lots of people say, gin, cola, 7up etc... but ultimatley you're then dealing with other residues in those things and its more expensive to do, not as reliable too. bicarb works 100% of the time. i'll stop waffling about it now. sorry, is just it has made me sparkle all the jewellery i can find and i'm telling the world! lol. x
  • I didnt get one,but our wedding rings will be platinum so they last.

I don't wear mine. Its in a crystal (plastic:D) box in my wedding memory box

It was a new ring but i wanted an antique 24 carat gold ring when i got married, found the perfect one that was made in 1939 but the gold on the engagement ring didn't match so i took it off and only wear my wedding ring now
  • I read somewhere that H Samuels is the cheapest place to go (where ever you bought your ring), and that is only cost £10ish... compared to much more in other shops
  • I have a white gold engagement ring.... but fancy a titanium wedding ring, but was told that the titanium is too hard and will danage the gold if I want to wear them together... am now tempted to wear engagement ring on my right hand.
