I've just done the whole process again and now it shows in add/remove 'Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX' Size 3.04MB

However, in order to view the website it still says I need to install flash plug-ins

Just to clear up something. There're two different programs that may appear in add/remove programs:
Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, this is the plugin for IE
Adobe Flash Player Plugin, this is the plugin for FF.

I was using Internet Explorer 7.0, now I'm browsing with Firefox.

    In add/remove it lists

Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX Size 3.04MB
Adobe Flash Player Plugin No size stated

Still having problems with Flash Plug-in. Does anyone know if I can download any other types of flash programs that would work?

Personally I could only suggest whats already posted.

    Close IE

    Remove flash with http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157

Then clear Browser history, or use ccleaner.

Then restart PC, then go to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash and get a new copy.

You may want to reset your browser to make sure its running properly, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Reset.

Thanks for that, will try it again. As I'm using Firefox how can I reset it or should I just use Internet Explorer?

When I used CCleaner, I just thought I'd click on 'Registry' and scanned for issues. It brought up the following:

    Missing Shared DLL C:/WINDOWS/system32/Macromed/Flash/Flash9e.ocx
    Missing Shared DLL C:/WINDOWS/system32/Macromed/Flash/FlashUtil9e.exe
    ActiveX/COM Issue LocalServer32/C:/WINDOWS/system32/Macromed/Flash/FlashUtil9e.exe

Not sure what I should do?

Have a look at this article. Could be registry permissions. Follow the advice in the link.
