DO NOT USE - either as a Tradesman or a customer. Customers can use professional bodies (Niceic, Corgi etc) to find a local, accredited tradesman. They are independently vetted and if you use an NICEIC electrician, you have the guarantee of the NICEIC that work will be carried to standard.0

Let me know how you get on with leaving Rated People. I just joined it today, and having read this forum, I now want to run away screaming - but can't find any way of closing my account!
There doesn't seem to be any link to close the account!
Exactly - they are a money making excercise who pretend to be offering a way for customers to find 'highly rated' tradesmen. The tradesman they are endorsing are not independently vetted; no work is monitored.
You have to ring them to close the account, which I did and they offered no refund for what I had already paid.0 -
hello rex mundi, I feel I need to correct your quote as u obviously haven't done any research on the topic u are commenting about. I am a tradesman that uses rated people, every job I have done has received a 5 star rating. the way rated people works is that the tradesman have to purchase the 'lead' ie the persons phone number and only they can rate you. so what you are saying is impossible and would cost more money than it would be worth. so perhaps in future look into the things you are going to form an opinion about. Not specific about this site, but I don't know how anyone can trust a website using online recommendations for tradespeople. A tradesman could have 50 good reports on a website, but all of these could have come from him/herself or family and friends (this is very easy to set up on even one computer).
If you are not sure, always better to get a personal recommendation from family/friends, and if possible, see an example of their work first.0 -
Rated people tuck £180 off me and I've got nothing off them to show for it. After speaking to them on the phone when joining, they told me you'll get 30 days free then we'll call you to see if you want to carry on the subscription and pay a fee. they never called or emailed me and after spending the free credit on leads I didn't get and once the texts stopped I gathered that's that, waste of time anyway. A few moths later I noticed money had come out of my account for subscription fees, I called them and argued that they said they would call me and they said they had called and emailed me to see if I wanted to continue the subscription, I did not receive these calls or emails what so ever. they then gave me £10 free credit as a good will jest. That £10 was they used on a £17.50+VAT lead which I didn't get and I swear wasn't even real as the customer never picked up there phone and some how Rated people text me saying sorry you didn't get through or something like that!! how would they know I'm calling someones mobile?? I then went on a pay as you go plan to stop the subscription charges, I then tried my luck on a lead where the customer wasted my time, His lead stated: One house to be decorated from top to bottom, paint provided etc. On calling the guy, he told me he hadn't bought the house yet but is looking to buy one in the next 6-8 weeks and that he was just putting "the feelers out" for a decorator . That lead cost me £50 don't forget the "VAT" and guess what?? that's right, Rated people wouldn't give me my money back for that miss-sold lead claiming the customer said he didn't trust me when I gave him a quote... I didn't even meet the customer and although he messed me around I was still polite to him on the phone in case he called me back in 8weeks, which he did but only to say the house they bought came decorated :T. Rated people handled all these issues unprofessional and utterly incompetently on the phone, trying to fob me off with what ever BS they could. Never again.
No body should use them, and they should be fine and shut down full stop.0 -
Hi!
I have joined Rated People as a Tradesperson and to be honest the site is not too good at this moment. I am in discussion with them as they seem to protect the customer a little too much - or they are negligent in their customer questions.
For example, no dimensions of the job are asked for from the customer: whether planning permission or a building survey has been issued or not: whether the customer is a time waster i.e. not really interested in getting a job done, just wants to know how much the fake job will cost IF they ever decide to do it: bad Help and advice sections for tradespeople: no warning to customers that tradespeople pay lots for a lead that may be a waste of time.
Rated People have been around for a while now and seem to be run by executives who have no idea about trades or planning regulations. Anyone can do this. I might have a go.0 -
Hi!
I've been using Rated People as a traseperson and they need to tidy up their act. Their questions for customers are very short of providing clarity and they refuse to consider a customer that is a time waster. It's sad to see a good idea dumped on by bad planning and advice from it's own executives. I have put my account membership on hold until further notice.0 -
Any website that advertises/recommends trades is very much open to abuse from any tradesperson that advertises there, or from the site owners in the chase for a quick buck (feedback or not, this is far too easy to abuse on the Internet). If possible at all, I would always suggest that you get recommendations from friends/family/nieghbours for a builder that they have dealt with personally.[/QUOTE]
That's true Rex Mundi, but your problem is really with Rated People for not allowing you to change your ratings isn't it? I am a tardesperson and you are taring me with a brush that I feel is actually covered in Rated People tar. Rated People are in it to make money and as a tradesperson I am getting stiffed by customers that have no intention of getting any work done, YET I have paid a ' lead ' fee. Customers also can be a pain and maybe you need to realize this - if you have not already.0 -
