I have recently used rated people and the tradesman we opted for XXL Driveways, (also known as Paving UK) -- were absolutely NOT value for money. The re pointing job they did left our sandstone with large cement smears all over each paving stone and the entire patio now looks terrible. Remember the name of this company and DON'T use them0

When you leave feed back, try not to be emotive or direct as rated people don't like you leaving honest reviews. You need to leave a review that is a bit woolly but gives any readers the idea that you were not happy.0 -
I had a need for a tradesman to perform a bunch of work on my property and I found someone on ratedpeople who appeared to match my needs. His references looked good so I employed him.
All started well, but after about a month he started work on another project and never completed all the tasks requested and partially paid for.
Further investigation revealed he has a number of business 'issues' and was basically insolvent, in fact down to his last £35 according to the tradesman himself - this despite me paying him thousands.
I complained to Rated People and they cancelled his account, then after talking with him they re-instated it.
I left him poor feedback on the site - it'll be interested to see how long it remains on view for.
In the meantime I've filed a small claim against him.
The company is called Premier Loft and Extension Ltd, located in Southport.
I subsequently found another contractor from Rated People to complete the work - but did extensive checking before proceeding.
Moral is - perform lots of due diligence, don't take for granted what you read on a website !0 -
I have posted a job on RP site and just had two of the most cowboy tradesmen you could have imagined quote me for jobs..
The jobs:- relocate a bathroom, and second knock two rooms together
The first ( builder) reckoned he could do all jobs.. noo problem at all.. v eay.. apart from the knocking too rooms together.. nope can't bedone.. v expensive #sharp instakes of breath# need to pull down that whole chimney stack and it will affect your neighbour.... ( yes there is a chimney in the wall between the two rooms, but I realised this and suggested an RSJ in my job posting. He then proceeded to open on of my large bedroom windows, and broke wind through it!!.. I was not impressed... needless to say his qu9ote came back and was much more than I expected.
The second.( plumber). looked at the bathroom, and asked.. Are you doing your Central Heating too? I replied, yes but I'm going with B Gas as I've had my fingers burnt before.. and they have a monthly payment plan.. # sharpintakesof breath# they're too expensive leave it with me.. I'll give you a quote... so off he goes and quotes, me.. and he can fit me in within the week.. I asked for his gas safe number....he said Oh I don't use one.. what I do is instal lit, then my mate who is gas safe registered comes and checks my work and issue the certificate - is that not illegal I ask? no we do it all the time!.. He gave me (eventually) the gas engineers registration number.. but i felt a little uneasy , so I called Gas safe
TOTALLY ILLEGAL!!!!...
so I dropped the job luckily before i shelled out any money.. and B Gas are coming round tomorrow..
I called the first guy back to quote me for plastering a room too... and made sure my partner was with me ( he looks like a very unhappy bouncer!)..The builder's attitude was v strange... he didn't like the fact my partner was there, and tried to talk to me quietly so he couldn't be overheard... he actually said "oh I liked it better when we could talk one to one like we did the other night!" ... "it's a difficult job... it won't be cheap!"... it's plastering a room for heavens sake.. for a qualified tradesman it's not hard!... they must have done hundreds
BE VERY WARY OF THIS SITE......These guys had good references.. but they are still dodgy!
I also think as I posted as a woman on the site.. I was called by opportunists.. who tried to take advantage of me being female.. luckily I like to think before I jump!0 -
Rated people - is a SCAM! I was one of unfortunate REAL tradespersons, registered with them. It didn’t take me long to realise that this website is designed for cowboy builders only, and I’m in the wrong place. Any one can join them as the tradesmen, as they will never ask or check your paperwork or references. So, if you one morning decide to become a plumber or bricklayer - Rated people will happily accept you as a member, as long you pay them membership fees.
About my self: City&Guild qualified carpenter, with long years of experience.
If you are like me and was thinking to join Rated people - you been warned! Not only you will be paying ridiculous fees for job leads ( £ 27.60 + VAT for job lead, where client clicked under £2000 budget), you will be competing with people who is got no clue, about what they doing.
To all work mans
- Only join Rated people if you consider your self as cowboy builder.
To all customers
- Don’t complain - you get what you paid. Be honest - you always looking for cheaper quote, and rated people is perfect place to find a CHEAPEST builder in town. If you want to gamble - choice is yours. Best recommendation - word of mouth.:iloveyou:0 -
Blimey, i must have been lucky,i used them for a loft re-wire(ruddy squirrels!), only got 2 replies, one was really abrupt when they called me,the other one was fine, called round, gave an estimate and i booked the job.
the electrician cancelled the first appointment so i was thinking i had made an error in judgement, next appointment he came, did the job really well, and tidied up.
I got the bill and he had took £30 off because there was part of the work that did not need doing.
in summary i was chuffed to bits with the tradesman i got, seems like i was one of the lucky ones.:D0 -
Hello, I used RP once for 4 diferent trades and this is the first time I have ever posted to a forum. I used RP for a electrician, decorator, roofer and gardener. I knew they had to pay fee but when a decorator sent me an email
"Thanks for wasting our time . That job cost us 47 pound to come an look u should not of posted the job online . If u wernt sure that u were guna do it. ".
I was not pleased. I contacted him and it transpired he paid £47 for each of 6 leads (£300 ish), with no work at the end and
for which he had just got an bill. I explained that the decesion to go ahead with any of the work had not been finalised and that he had now blowen it. I had 11 trades men call to give quotes for various jobs 2-3 for each trade.
I now think that the site is a rip off as based on my usage they may have taken some £300 to £500 for leads assuming a £47 fee for all worst case. this repeated each day for a year runs into £100Ks.
Im not saying there are not trades men who get work from it and good ones at that but I think some thought needs to be givin to using these sorts of sites and who they benifit the trades men or RP.0 -
Ive registered on here after reading about ratedpeople, i was a tradesman registered on the site with exellent reviews , you do get duff leads and have a hard time getting anything back off rated people , countless arguments with the staff over credits for leads, they are clearly geared to taking money off the trademan and thinking of them selves. i spent over 3000 pounds with them over 2 years, i managed to make enough money from it but it becomes another job every evening on the phone explaining the duff leads to get credit back it was like pulling teeth. i recently left them after buying a lead some three month back , the customer recently got in touch asking if i would do the job at what cost, it was a 300 pound job , i agreed and she then booked it in some days later, i then got text messages off her tellin me she found a cheaper quote will i match it , i answered no afraid not. after several text back and forth tryin to get the price down i told her i aint interested in the job and will contact police if she carried on with the messages, she left bad feedback , i questioned this and asked for it removin by rated people , they have strange views and think we as tradespeople should bow and beg the customer for the job, they said it wasnt right me tellin her i would contact the police. huh? you hear a lot about cowboy builder all over . no one ever mentions cowboy customer and rated people are geared for them type of people (cowboy customers) messers time wasters and people trying to screw the tradesman . these idiot who represent rated people have one line answers for it no matter what the question is.0
