Thankis for posting this, it gives a very good impression of how this company works.0

I used rated people to find a company to undertake several points and they have been extremely unhelpful. I engaged a company to lay a block paving driveway at my Father's house. He being in his eighties left it to me to find a good reputable company which I did. I used Rated People and some fifteen months later I have had to obtain a surveyors report due to the poor quality of work. When I contacted Rated People they stated it was nothing to do with them and they advised they do not recommend trades people. I make some further enquires of this company and established that anyone can register and you don't have to have any building or trades qualifications whatsoever. It gets worse Rated People don't take up any references or importantly carry out CRB checks. So effectively you could have Joe blogs walking into your house who may well have had a chequered history and never undertaken the work you have employed him to do. So as I say tread with caution ask to see references, id, CRB check, insurance and qualifications. If you don't wish to steer well alone and go for a Trading Standards registered tradesman. We are still waiting for the job to be sorted out without any help with so called Rated People.:(0

I doubt trading standards carry out crb checks. If you don't leap, you'll never know what it is to fly :heartpuls0

Surely the way forward for them is to take a percentage of the quoted price once you have securred & completed the job, or is that just too simple..?!![/QUOTE]
But why would RP do that if they can get more money from us, traders?0 -
I've read with great interest all the irate & disillusioned posts concerning 'Rated People' & there's no doubt that there are genuine issues to be resolved here.
I have got to say though that I myself have used Rated People looking for tradesmen, and most resently I wanted a gardener! I received a call within an hour of submitting my request, liked the sound of the person who called & accepted their quote.
The company we got through RP have transformed our garden, are very hard workers & we are thrilled. It has proved an excellent move on our part & the company themselves have told us that 75% of their work comes via RP & that for them, it was money well spent.
I have twice before used RP with the same excellent results, & while I am not doubting any of the negative posts written, I am in business myself, & know that you cannot please ALL the people ALL of the time. I'm sorry to hear you have all had bad experiences, but I do feel it is unfair to accuse a company of deliberately "Scamming", simply because you have had a bad experience! I merely speak as I find & judge on MY own experiences-which have been excellent!
I will definately be using Rated People again!!!:)0 -
What made you search the web for them now?0

they are a big scam, you have to haggle with customers, you are not guaranteed a return call never mind a job from any customers.
some customers dont answer you,i rang one job when it alerted me,so i rang the customer and there was a plumber already there doing job?.
rated people said i could not have refund and that was it.
i went to quote job at 6.30 pm and customer was not there and did not answer phone.
this site is for rated to make money and that is it,no more no less and they are making it out of honest workers like us.
we should put a petition together to close them down.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::(e mail me at any time and we will get it on facebook and every social site we can.
it is about time rouge web sites were on television not just traders...
Total scam!!!!!! I agree they need to be closed down!!!!! Rip-off!!!! Last year, Rated People generated £7 million in revenue!!! wonder why!0 -
Hello
I have been researching on the net about rated people and have also tried out there service and think its a big scam and a no go area. I was randomly called by a guy called afzam telling me i had spoke to sum1 earlier about signing up for this website, i played along with it and he told me he could make me money well i paid him the trial fee which was around a tenner, purchased 2 jobs which cost 16 and 8 and couldnt get in contact with any of them, Well i rang inn and they said they will not refund but give me a credit for another job which i can confirm i did recieve, same thing again got called by another guy called daniel who sold me the 2 jobs for free, rang these two customers and one didint answer and the other made a bad remark and hung up instantly.
besides that i have some friends who have also used this website and been stung big time, Budgets are unrealistic etc, when you take to the advisor they just sell it on the basis that budgets are just for guidance only the customer is not a tradesman so u can quote whatever u want. That is certainly not true because the purpose of the budget is to see which tradesperson can do it cheapest or within the range the customer wants to pay.
From what i have gathered the only person who makes money is rated people. i have some relatives who recently got a job there and she said that the place sucks, the only thing the management care about is selling. She also added that the management is run by people which are highly unprofessional and dont really care about the traders because they just want to take money from you slowly.0 -
I advertised on rated people yesterday for a joiner to do a small job for me. I had a voicemail at 4.30 asking to call be back. I did nothave time to call the person back & as a result got a tirade of sickening & vile text and voice messages from the same number (did not even withold number). I have passed to the police & intend to forward them to the management at rated people. Just glad that it was not my mother or wife who received the messages. They make your number available to any of their subscribed members and they could be anyone. No vetting, no nothing. Avoid like the plague. If the offending 'tradesman' is not removed from the site after passing his details to the site earlier, I will forward this matter to Watchdog!0

I have registered on both sites Rated and Servicemagic and ended up with a lot of quotes from untrustworthy sole traders. Both websites are misleading to the public and no trader is vetted. I ended up with a roofer who was a professional rogue/con-man (Crown Seal UK) as a result of Servicemagic, now taking him to court if I can . I have found Trustmark site, which appears to be much better as companies have been independently checked through regular on-site inspections and monitored (trustmark.org.uk/). When I complained to Servicemagic about the rogue it was on deaf ears, all they concerned about is making money.Hello Andy,
I used rated people to find an electrician, to cut a very long story short, I was so disgusted with him I ended up taking him to court. I contacted Rated people, they said sorry, to hear that. I will never use a website, to find a trades man again. If I'm looking for a trader, I forward emails to all my friends, and ask them, if they know of someone, as most people who live in homes, have had similar building problems.0
