Collect all your wax drips and candle ends together, remelt (i use an old metal bucket and put it in the oven when i am cooking) and using a wick an holder ( can reuse the little metal bits from tea lights and ebay a good cheap source of wicks) place in bottom of sturdy small glass jar and fill with molten wax, another candle. sounds daft but use a lot of candles and hate wasting them.
Got a recycled DH does that count?0 -
halloweenqueen wrote:I should be getting my paper brick maker this week, so I will be recycling my paper into burnable bricks - hopefully!
How many papers does it take to make a paper brick roughly? Do they burn long? I haven't a clue about these things but it does sound interesting.0 -
I used my shredded paper to start with as I can recycle the newspapers but not those, I had a bag I'd saved and emptied the shredder, put a load of leaflets and odd's from the post and I only made 3. I'm not sure how many newspapers it would take, but i think I can make a few with my shredded stuff each week and it will give them time to dry out!0

I use these to make funky cards for my teenage grandchildren I attach the printed side to the card leaving the shiny side for sticking on names and slogans on."superstar grandson /daughter ect" The kids think its cool0 -
:T What a great thread - glad it's been revived! I do quite alot of these but have picked up some great tips. I've been collecting the plastic trays that some fruit and veg comes in to plant up seeds but wasn't too sure if it would work - lovely to see I'm not the only person doing this.
I cut the hanging ribbons off of tops to use for wrapping gifts or using to decorate tops and t-shirts, useful if they get a small stain that refuses to move but otherwise the top is fine - I save ribbons from anywhere for the same purpose!
At work I keep all my scrap paper and use the other side in my printer for things that are only for me. Anything then shreded gets used for composting or for packaging - great for moving houseMortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. You can buy some cheap kite string and dip that into the melted wax and then manually straighten up back into a line for the wicks. Just cut to size!0 -
I read recently that you can use shredded paper instead of hay in a hay box cooker.
To make the hay box it said to use an old cool box, fill with shredded paper and then use an old pillow for additional insulation before putting on the coolbox lid.

Hi, just wondering if anyone can suggest a use for a Kikkoman soya sauce bottle. It seems too nice to chuck in the recycle bin.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
