Northern Rock bonus

But the account interest rate terms are part of the terms & conditions.0

....and it uses the words 'introductory bonus'.FridaysVictim wrote: »Their T&C's don't mention the words :
"Introductory" ,
"Bonus"
"1.06"(which was the then bonus)
or a definition of the word "customer" .
The only mention of a bonus is when you look at the account advert where , today , it says 6.25% interest and click the "Find out more" link and then the "Show notes" link .
That is the only place you will find it mentioned (as far as I've found anyway).
Well, it does now, anyway!0 -
You are rightly quoting the advert which is current and , I believe , the same as when I opened the account (except the bonus rate has increased from 1.06% to 1.24%) .
This is not the same document as the T&C's which is in the form of a pdf file which you download when or if you open the account .
That's why I differentiated between "T&C's" and "Account Advert" .
The current T&C's are available at http://www.northernrock.co.uk/downloads/tracker_online_tandc_301107.pdf
but these aren't neccessarily the same as the one's I signed up to (we haven't studied as currently there is no point) , which I have a copy of if you are that interested .0 -
But the T&Cs specifically refer to the interest rates shown at www.northernrock.co.uk/savings (which includes the phrase 'introductory bonus'), so I fear they've got you there.0

Sure , but it doesn't alter the fact that the notes state "Only one introductory bonus is payable per customer." .
If they had stated "Only one introductory bonus is payable per customer or returning customer" , then I wouldn't have opened the account .
At the time I opened the account I wasn't a "customer" under those terms as I had had no dealings with them for nearly 2 years .
The legal definition of the word "customer" under contract law is what I am trying to find . I just thought someone on here may know as it's actually quite interesting in a way (well I find it so) .
At the end of the day this thread is really just to advise others who may have been paid an introductory bonus since Northern Rock demutualised on 01/10/97 that they will not get this current bonus which they may be relying on .0 -
IMHO if you closed your account you are no longer a customer. When you open a new account you are a new customer. Unless the T&Cs specifically state rejoining customers are not eligible for the bonus, I reckon you have a valid complaint.0

As do I.

We will have to all gather together again, same time, same place in 2009. :beer:0 -

Did they make you send off fresh identification documents when you opened the account? Normally such documents are not required for "existing customers". If they insisted on ID from you, that would strengthen your position0
