Sorry, I think you have this wrong.
You can only claim on travel to a temporary work place which could be visits to clients, patients other sites or even a short term posting.
You can't claim tax relief on commuting i.e. your regular office/factory trip to a single location where you work every day.0 -
In my previous job I used my car on a regular basis. I received £50 per month (before tax) in my monthly salary plus the cost of doing the miles 34p per mile. Seeing as though I received this additional £50 would I still be able to claim the difference up to 40p per mile?0

As the £50 was taxed, it was in effect part of your salary. Assuming the 34p was not taxed, then you can claim tax relief on the differnece.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Hi All,
Sorry another newbie with a question!
I have very recently changed my employer. My previous employer paid 35p per mile and this resulted in doing a p87 to receive the additional 5p per mile. I have changed employer in may, and now receive 46.9p per mile. I am currently not being taxed on my milage. Does this mean I should be filling out a p87 in april to pay tax on my new allowance?:eek:0 -

Yes (and I've corrected your post).I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

A p87 does not colelct tax on your car allowance. Your employer should be putting the allowance through the payroll and taxing it along with your pay. You need to ask him why he's not doing this.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

i get 25 p a mile for expenses so i take it i can claim back the remaining 15p up to 10,000 miles.
on the form on section 5 it asks me to fill in if my employer has paid me general expense allowances instead of paying me separate amounts for individual expenses. Do i put down my car allowance in this section?????
many thanks0 -

You won't get the 15p just the tax on it.
You shouldn't enter your car allowance as this is already taxed.0 -
Just a quick question, Im entitled to claim business milage, my company pays a flat £0.18 per mile, so i can claim the extra over (ie £0.22 for first 10K, then £0.07 for the rest) Will i be entitled to this full ammount over what im paid or just the tax reliefe on it ? Im confused, i though i would get the fill £2600ish or what ever it works out to be?
Cheers

Did you read the thread? It's been made clear several times that it's the TAX RELIEF you can claim, not the difference.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
