Whats a mileage log? I have expense forms signed by my company will that do?
EDIT: For anyone interested I have a business mileage template spreadsheet that allow me to keep track of business travel on a monthly basis. In addiiton it allows me to monitor expenses incurred throuout the period, i.e. tyres, fuel, etc, etc, in order to better gaugage how much better / worse off I am. It also has a summary sheet with ................. a little box that tells me how much I should be getting back from the tax man (as my business miles accrue). PM if anyone wants a copy (pretty sure all the formulae are ok now).Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

I'm rather fed up with the huge increases in fuel costs and not getting any increase in mileage allowance from my employers. I know anything above 40p we would have to pay tax on but even so that would be a better option in my opinion. Myself and my colleagues are trying to make a case to our company to get an increase - what would really help is if anyone knew when Inland Revenue set the 40p per mile tax free amount. Then I would like to find out how much petrol cost in those dark and distant days. Does anyone know the answers? Or has anyone approached their employers and managed to get an increase.
Thanks in advance

I went into my local tax office today to get a 2008 form....was given the 2007 one and told to change the date as they had no idea when they were going to receive the new forms!0 -
I went down today to get forms for myself and a few people at work. When I got there they asked me whether I wanted the form for this year coming or for the last tax year only to then be given forms for the year ending 2005 and being told to just cross out the date.
1) They must have been really under budget in that office in the 04/05 tax year to have ordered so many forms they're still using them in the 4th tax year.
2) Why did they ask me?
For whoever asked about having a log of their mileage. I was told that they probably wouldn't check a sensible claim (seems odd) but that if they did then my employers should have an itemised log going back 6 years in case they're records are ever checked for what they've claimed as an expense.0 -
I got fed up waiting and sent off the 2006/2007 form and just crossed out the year and put 2008, hopefully they will accept it.. Its amazing that nobody has got around to updating the form yet, 3 weeks into the new tax year.0
