P87 - confused!!!

Options
I need to fill out a P87 form for the year 2007-2008. However, when I got to the form on the gov website it says its for year ending Apr 2007. Can I use this form? If not, when will the new form be out, (assuming there will be a new form). Can someone answer this conundrum please?

I would imagine an updated form would be available once the new tax year starts.
  • I was told by the local tax office that it would be there by 4th April but I still can't see it?

If you are anxious to claim, why not put your claim on a sreadsheet and send it to HMRC with a covering letter - it doesnt have to be on the special form. Dont for get to send your P60!

What i do is send the P87 and then wait for the HMRC to get back.

The P60 will not be due until towards the end of May and the P11D's in July.

So just send your P87 off for now

A word of advice - don't send in your P87 just now, wait till you have your P60 and P11D (if appropriate) and send both together. Otherwise your P87 will sit in a queue for 4-6 weeks then HMRC will write to you for your P60 then you will wait another 4-6 weeks for that to be dealt with.

Remember every man and their dog is submitting repayment claims just now and the fact is most cannot be dealt with without a P60.

You can use the 2007 form just score out the 2007 and put in 2008 as the rates have not changed.

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/p87.pdf

You will see on the front of the form that it tells you not to send any paperwork/documents with it.

It may well say don't send paperwork but until HMRC have your P60 details for the year they cannot calculate any repayment due and as the employee will normally recieve their P60 long before HMRC have the information then I would send the P60. with the P87.

HMRC told me via the on line service section NOT to change the date on the 07/08 form when I asked how to claim for the previous 4 years! However they did not tell me how I should claim it:confused:

I am thinking fill in the form I have and then send in the other years info in a similar format on a spreadsheet or similar. Any comments?
  • Hi - new to this forum so hope someone can help

I get 12p per mile for business use of my car so need to claim back 28p per mile on the P87 form

My total mileage for 2007/2008 is 8878
I have been paid 12p per mile on this = £1065.36

    I assume therefore i can claim 8878 x .28p per mile = £2485.84

Will this be sent back to me as a cheque or will it fall into a tax code recalculation?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated:beer:
