Hi ITBS,
Excellent that things are moving along reasonably well, good call on getting the name and personal contact number of tax man (guarantee no miscommunication!;)) and that he seems decent:)
And as a slight silver lining, bit of a 'bonus' that the first part of this years tax is included in the 14½K personal tax - and that you may be able to claim it back....
All the best (cramped fingers and all:rotfl:)0 -
Hi all,
Thanks again for your continued kind words, (and cramp AmIdone4:A )
SSA, WOW, that person was me a week ago..........
Well, Just had shower, shave and am now off to the licensing dept to personally pick up my forms and pick their brains (they really will wish they had just sent them in the post like they said they would:rotfl: )
Guess how I'm going to get there.............. Taxi.
call it market research, gonna ask if his company taking drivers on, how much radio charges etc.
I think I might start a diary off at the weekend to save this being a 1 million page thread.
Will let you all know how I get on at the licensing dept.
thanks again, you are ALL great:beer:0 -

Looks like things are looking better now, really pleased for you
(Don't know anything about the tax thing but sounds good)
:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
Ok..
Got taxi into licensing dept. Told the driver what i was going there for and asked him if his firm was taking owner drivers on. He said tbh when you own your own car you will have no problem getting work. He's been doing it for over a year and best thing he's done.
Asked him how much radio was and he pays £64 a week. That's less than i thought so chuffed with that.
Also the other good thing is that the meters have gps built in, so the jobs are allocated on who is nearest, this was one of my main worries as a new driver that the established drivers would get "dibs" on all the jobs.
Gets in the licensing dept and sees a nice fella there who has probably never been asked so many questions. Really used this chance to ask everything I could think of so glad the post didn't turn up now.
Bit of confusion over this driver training course. It used to be free but now he "thinks" they might charge for it but its up in the air, told me to ring the training company before I do anything. Picked up all forms, medical, CRB. license app etc and thanked him for his time.
Rang the training dept who were just as confused saying that they didn't know whether this council was still wanting drivers to take the course as there is some background politics going on. Regardless the cost is £150 if you aren't on benefits, £10 if you are. There goes another £150 quid!!!!
There is a course starting Monday and its a week long, the trainer is going to ring me back when he's had clarification from the councils licensing dept re the confusion so fingers crossed i can get ont this.....
All in all a productive day.0 -

Hi DS,
Thought you'd been quiet lately........
Thanks for the support. Yes things do seem to be looking up.
I might even get the taxi next week, I know its just gonna sit there and cost me a months payment, but, the way the credit crunch is going i would be devestated if I waited til i was through all my training/checks and then couldn't get the finance.
How are things for you 2? Fine i hope.....
Keep me updated mate, best of luck to you to.0 -
