DSR's - Educate Buyers?

After a quick Google it seems either a lot of buyers aren't sure what the Star ratings actually mean, or that eBay are knocking sellers down a peg or two.
Would it be rude to explain the stars to buyers, and how giving a 4 versus a 5 is actually a VERY big difference for a seller?

Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Please do, if it was done properly 3 would be the norm, leaving 1 and 2 to register issues and 4 and 5 to reward good service. As it happens I believe 4 to be "very good" and 5 to be exceptional, wihhc makes the 4.3 you need to maintain a bit stupid.
But that's Ebay for you.0 -
We've been muddling through with stars on Amazon for ages now..and it is very difficult to keep a perfect rating.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I pretty much always leave 5 stars for everything, unless something has gone wrong. Kind of thought thats what everyone did
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
The stars are a farce - I sell postcards, and scan them back and front. I mail the buyer once the auction finishes, and then advise them when the item is posted. I post everything within 48 hours, and don't mark my postage up.
I still only have 4.8s, so have no idea what you have to do to get a 5
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

Unfortunately, Charlies_mum, you can't please all of the people all of the time, there's always going to be some idiot that insists that something being delivered the very next day by first class, or that thinks that P&P is just the cost of the stamp."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Yes but that's exactly the problem with the feedback and the stars. In feedback andy thing less than a +ve is regarded as bad, whereas really neutral should be the norm and now for the stars unless people get a 5 they think something is wrong, whereas 3 is a better norm to leave 4 and 5 to reward and 1 and 2 to punish good and bad performance.0 -
There is a seller in the US that is selling information stickers to send with outbound goods - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=380000792219
I'm not sure yet if this is a good idea, or if it may tempt the malice out of people.
Anything would be better than the current shambles that suggests to buyers that 4 stars are good, but in reality it is not good enough for eBay seller standards.

it seem if u have a rating of 4.3 on one star then ur listings are demoted to bottom regardless of time less!! I just sold a lot of items for a lot less than their worth, noticing in last hour this?! really angry that nothing flagged this up to me before:j Debt-Free-Wannabe! :jDeclutter/Ebay/Savings0
