Hi guys, I am supposed to be starting my training on 26th also but i'm having some problems that I hope that some of you can help me with? Please be patient lol

I put in the Workbooth CD and ran it, and all went well until I got a message saying that I have 248M on my PC and it should be 524 M and that I need to upgrade my speed/RAM. Is this a necessity? In other words, do they just recommend you have the optimum speed even though its not completely necessary or will I need to buy more RAM?

Yep you need at least 512mb of Ram, normally this is picked up when you do the PC assessment test at the start of the recruitment process, go to http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/index.aspx and run the system scanner it will show you your upgrade options.

The directions on the Workbooth CD also tell me to go into a "Workbooth Session" via clicking on the "calender link" at www.workbooth.info, but when I go into the calender there's no way for me to enter any session?!

Don't worry about that its no longer used.

Also, my recruiter Carolyn keeps saying that I should return the documents/contract, references etc within 48 hours and I recieved them on Thursday so I'm already late. It's just, I work part-time during the day which makes it difficult to get all this sorted in such a short space of time. Do they keep my place open for me to start on 26th or will they close that place now that I havnt replied within the 48 hour time period?

Sure if you do it before Monday you will be ok.

Thirdly, I've been told that I need to buy an analogue phone (?) which all call centres use, does anybody know where I could buy one and an approximate price?

A phone and headset is supplied, but you don't get this when you first start
training, some people buy a cheap hands free phone to use for the 1st week or so on the training calls.

And lastly, my telephone line is downstairs even though I will be working upstars in my bedroom. But I have an extension lead which I can plug into my phone socket and bring the phone upstairs, but in the dicuments I've recieved it says that the phone line must be beside the PC. Will I need to phone Virgin and ask them to install a new line in my bedroom?

Well you have two options get virgin to move your cable router upstairs
or buy a long Ethernet cable and run it alongside the telephone cable
    upstairs to your workplace.

Sorry for rambling on and sounding daft. I hope someone can help.

    Thanks :o:D

    hope that helps a little

I think that the ram is a necessity but the workbooth info booklet that comes with the new hire paperwork states 256mb. It shouldnt cvost you much for an extra 256mb or higher, ram is very cheap these days. I had the same problem with the calendar, but i phoned my recruiter and she told me that they do not do that anymore and it needs to be removed from the booklet - so no need to worry about it. I dont know about the references as i was told 24 hours and they had to be returned with the CRB reference number. As for the contract it does need to be returned promptly otherwise you wont be getting paid lol. You dont need to buy any specific phone really, you just need a corded telephone (NOT CORDLESS) on an analogue line (not VOIP or MOBILE etc just standard BT/Cable). An extension would be fine as long as it works and isnt likely to be unplugged by anybody, i think that the reason behind saying the phone has to be beside the PC is because you need to use both at the same time. My understanding is that sometime during training you will receive a headset to use for work which just plugs into the telephone socket.

Which training group have you selected?

Hey i dont understand why everybodys CRB's are taking so long, I applied for mine on Wednesday morning and it arrived today Saturday, I cant believe it only takes 3 days!! or maybe im just lucky. Can anybody who is due to go live confirm the headset comment?

Did anybody else notice the line in the contract stating that you will not be required to work abroad for more than a month at a time lol

A CRB is basically your Basic Disclosure which you have to apply for due to the sensitive nature of the job (i assume that you already know who the client is) as you will have acces to customer details etc. Have you received your contract yet? with the page that you have to get signed by a solicitor?

Oh the form which I have to send to Scotland? Yes, I have that and am sending it off tomorrow :)
Yes I know the client is (not sure if I'm allowed to say on here though?) and I received my contract on Thurs, just have to find a decent solicitor in Belfast who can do it for a reasonable price, but I don't think that should be a problem - hopefully!! lol

I'm going to buy more RAM for my PC this week, but do you know if I have to take my PC to the shop to get it installed or is it simple enough to install myself?

Hiya- it is best not to say who the client is on the forums. reference your solictor - you should not pay more than £5 to £15 -if you are quoted anymore than that then go somewhere else. I was originally quoted £10 for a solictor in Bangor, Co. down and when I went and she realised how little time it took she only charged me £5.
