Having or not having owned anything has nothing to do with having a subjective viewpoint, which meanmachine has.
Why set yourself up to be broken hearted of a load of bricks.
Im quite certain the op hasnt broken down in floods of tears over this and neither should you...

Decided to go with the wait till we got an offer on ours route!
Quite by chance the estate agent phoned with a viewing appointment before I'd had a chance to discuss prices = oh well, we'll see!!
Good luck with your viewing, I think you are doing it the right way around.
Not many vendors will take an offer from an incomplete chain very seriously, I hope it all goes well and you get the house but if not remmeber 'everything happens for a reason' and you may well find a better one if you loose this.0 -

Hhhm I think you are wrong on that one, personal experience counts for a hell of a lot. Anyone can hold an opinion but the best will always be from those who have experienced something first hand.0 -
I was posting with my tongue firmly in my cheek, while offering the incredibly sane opinion that you should try to be as disappasionate as you can when making what is.....wait for it....a financial transaction.
Because that is how the estate agent will see it. And I suggest you get on their wavelength, or else risk being taken advantage of.

Believe me, I wouldn't dare to give my opinion if I wasn't actually a potential buyer who, in the last 12 months, has viewed around a dozen properties. Is that good enough for you?
I didn't fall in love with any of them because I'm not that sort of person.
I viewed each one and weighed up the pros and cons.
At the moment I'm worried that my savings will be lost in any price correction, so if I'm swayed by any emotion then it's one of fear rather than love.
You can abuse me and bully me all you want but at the end of the day I'm a potential buyer and there are lots out there who think and feel the same as me.0 -
PLEASE can we stop posting personal remarks aimed at other members of the site. Although some views may appear a bit extreme all views are valid.
Thanks.0 -
I can't see why people are getting upset here. If you put any personal emotion into a decision you're no longer being totally objective. Without doubt parasites (sorry EAs) turn this to their advantage but both buyers and sellers can be manipulated by e.g. the phantom interested party. In my experience there's a very fine line between being serious enough to ensure your offer is accepted and overcommitted where the EA takes the !!!!!!.
For what its worth although meanmachine has a habit of saying a similar thing in a lot of threads it doesn't make his view less valid. I think its representative of a lot of ftbs who don't have external drivers e.g. expecting a baby, wanting to settle down "properly" as a couple. Of course there will be people who are driven by non-financial reasons but if a significant part of the buying chain sits on its hands the experience of those who went through the process in a different part of the cycle isn't wholly appropriate.0 -
Well done trevbob.
You've articulated my point of view in a clear and sensible way, without annoying others, as I am wont to do.
I was only trying to inject an element of sanity into a thread on a site which is normally very sensible and packed with great info.
But once again, people seem to lose all sense of reason when it comes to purchasing property.
It's also one of the few areas of the site where salespeople (brokers and Estate Agents) are rarely castigated for pushing their own highly subjective point of view.
(That's no criticism of bridie, by the way, who does a great job of keeping me in line
