Yes. paypal has its faults but i think we should be making people AWARE of the pitfalls (through sites like this and https://www.paypalsucks.com) and minimizing the risks so that people don't get caught out rather than making these sensationalist remarks.
As Soolin says, work within the constraints of paypal, accept its limitations and adding a personal note - be very wary of large transactions through paypal (or avoid them!) and you should be fine.
What are you going to suggest next, we stop driving our cars because sometimes people have accidents???0 -
I happily accept paypal for small items under say £10. For transactions that go into the £100's of pounds I would probably be less keen to accept, but I do find it much more convenient to use paypal.
If you're worried about fraudulent transactions on higher value goods then don't send to un-validated address (it tells you about this in the payment recieved email from paypal), and always contact seller via the ebay contact member before shipping.0 -

Should i state on my ebay listing for high value items (£400 -800) that i would only accept verifed paypal bidders and will only ship to the address stated on paypal (ie will that cover me for seller protection)?. what if somone uses a stolen card to pay for my goods will i still be covered by sellers protection if they are verified (i,m guessing somone of these scammers use stolen card but get verifed on rented accomadation.)0 -

Geoggy wrote:Your point is irrelevant. My post is regarding "accepting" paypal. Not paying by Paypal.
This is a public forum. Who died and made you prefect of what is or is not relevant? If you are unable to comprehend the implications of people refusing to use payment methods other than paypal on a seller who refuses to use paypal, then perhaps you need to think through your utopian solution a little further.Geoggy wrote:As a buyer what PAYPAL do or don't do for you if you don't receive the goods is irrelevant anyway.
Well maybe losing your hard-earned cash is irrelevant to you, but it is not to me. This is a moneysaving forum, after all.Geoggy wrote:Heard of credit card chargebacks i assume?
Of course. I would always consider paying for items costing more than £100 by credit card if that payment method were ever offered.0 -

Yes, i agree.masonic wrote:Who died and made you prefect of what is or is not relevant?
Who died and made you forum sarchastic supremo? If you post something in a thread I have started having a go at me and my view point but miss the point of the thread expect to be told. Otherwise I suggest you dont click on any more threads started by me.masonic wrote:If you are unable to comprehend the implications of people refusing to use payment methods other than paypal on a seller who refuses to use paypal, then perhaps you need to think through your utopian solution a little further.
I was OK until the big words started.masonic wrote:Well maybe losing your hard-earned cash is irrelevant to you, but it is not to me.
If it was irrelevant why would I have started the thread?masonic wrote:This is a moneysaving forum, after all.
Yes I know. Maybe you should ram it down the throat of someone else? Perhaps the woman in the "Quick Grabbit While you can" forum who spent £600 in the M&S sale yestarday? Just as an example.
Your split quoting of my point on buying using PAYPAL indicates your misunderstanding of my vision of "utopia."
My advice, without predjudice is simple.
1.Don't accept Paypal for your auctions.*
2.Pay by Paypal for auctions you win.**
I can start another thread for number two if it will help clear some of the fog?***
