I was being polite.  "Unlikely" = Not possible.   I gave two factual reasons why not.

Also, your logic that no entry to the home means it must be electronic detection is not correct.   TV Licensing often conduct their interviews on the doorstep, and they are usually based on an extracted confession, not physical evidence of evasion.

Historically, there was more rogue behaviour by TVL operatives than there is now, and so my guess would be that it was that.   There's also the possibility that someone else gave your friend's name when questioned, because TVL do not ask for ID and never have.

It was stated in court that it WAS electronic.  NO visits from TVL.

    1. the police do not get involved. neither Licence evasion or TVL Warrant obstruction are offences "of concern" to the Police, and there is no power of arrest. TVL evasion is not an arrestable offence, so no handcuffs, dragging down to the station etc

    2. unless your friend was using the old analogue crt type of tv, with the curtains closed there is no technical detection of digital tv possible.

one option is that your friend missed a court hearing and the magistrate issued an arrest warrant - not for the tvl.offence but for not turning up.

The only thing that he could be arrested for is non payment of a fine but if he has had no contact with TVL then the goon must have being lying in their statement as to even knocking on their door and any letters from TVL to send in a plea and their financial info could have being countered in court with the person saying that they hadn't spoken to any goon at the door because no one knocked at the door claiming to be from TVL.

Someone please tell me what money is
  • Hi
Could anyone tell me whether you need a TV licence to watch personal You tube channels such as Big Jet TV (livestreaming  activity at Heathrow), or livestreaming from cameras set up on garden bird tables. The wording about what you can and cannot watch is confusing! Thanks

No you don't need a licence, they are not "broadcast" via a transmitter & picked up by TV antenna and capable of being viewed on any TV
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens
  • Farway, thanks so much for clarifying  :)
