I spend a lot of time away from home in my holiday park home. While I am away, no one uses the TV at my normal address. Do I need a separate license for my holiday home?

The rules for holiday homes are complicated, and depend on exactly the type of dwelling that it is.

That gives you a number of options:-

    1. You/anyone can use catch-up, DVDs etc. without a Licence anywhere. (BBC iPlayer will come under the Licence in January).

    2. As pappa golf says, you can use a TV or other playing/receiving device powered by its own batteries anywhere if you have a Licence at your main address.

    3. TVL say that you don't need a second Licence for a "Static caravan, mobile home or moveable chalet" if you aren't using your home TV at the same time.

If your holiday home is a "House, flat, bungalow or cottage" then you would need a second TV Licence to be able to watch TV broadcasts on a mains-powered device.

Is a TV license needed for streaming radio shows on the BBC website (audio only) including those that have already been broadcasted?

There's no requirement for a licence to listen to radio via any method

    Okay,

Yesterday I had a visit from tvl agent and he said that:

    - From september all catch-up services will require TV licence (Youtube,Netflix etc.).
    - I need licence to view i.e. shakira clips via youtube
    - They have acces to my internet viewing history via internet provider.

I never watch BBC or Iplayer, I do not have a TV in my house. I use laptop to view movies on foreign websites sometimes, but mainly I use it for youtube - about 90% of content I view is created by youtubers I watch and rest are mostly movie trailers and music clips.

Do I need TV licence for that or did he lied to me?

Not true. This only affects BBC iPlayer.

Not true. Nothing has changed re: Youtube, Netflix, etc.

What he told you wasn't true. All three statements, in fact, are categorically wrong.
  • Oh and FYI, he's not a "tvl agent".

    He's a commission salesman.

Thank you for this. This is unaccaptable that they can come to my house and tell lies about laws.
  • Simple answer.

    1. Don't open the door.

    2. If you do open the door, shut it again.

    3. If you are unsure who is at the door, don't answer their questions. Instead, ask your own questions, beginning with "Who are you?" (you may have to ask several time, before you get an answer) and "Where is your ID?"

    4. Most importantly, don't, under any circumstances, sign their paperwork.

This is who they are, LIARS, CHEATS, SCUM

That is why the easiest thing is not to engage, anything you say will be used to manipulate or confuse you.

You could film them if you want.

I am just waiting for mine, he buzzes trade bell when he has no authority to do so. Was intimidating a lad with special needs, luckily I saw him and told him to foxtrot oscar.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !
