You lot are sooooo funny :rotfl:

We got back from holiday last week and there I was the other night when I saw something move by my foot  It was the biggest spider I've even seen in my LIFE!!!!! anyway, got hub to capture and release it outside ( :A ) then went for a wee (TMI?) was sat there when I looked down to see another (smaller) spider crawling across my chest  I couldn't even jump up and run away  I brushed it off and it landed on my arm...... picture the scene :D

Anyway, my point is that spiders love empty houses so if the OP has just moved in to a previously empty property then that's probably why there are so many spiders.
Just run, run and keep on running!

What is it with you lot? What have spiders ever done to you? We have several spiders that live in our house (also in the rabbit hutch we call a holiday home in Scotland) and we treat them as honoured guests and always make sure that they are well out of the way when we vacuum the premises. What we don't have is flies horrid dirty things :T
I'm with you on this one! I leave them be (except if they're in the sink or bath, then I rescue them) because I think they eat all the nasties. I actually think they're good for the house! I even talk to them :o (yeah, mad I know)!

Arghh, that means it's still out there, and might even have been reproducing! I've noticed quite a difference now that we've settled into the new place, not as many spiders at all, especially since I used the spider stop around all the windows. Still getting lots of the really spindly ones (about 20 or so a day) on the ceilings, but they go up the hoover nice and easily.

This local news story, "Pub chef bitten by deadly spider" , was bad enough. The follow up report "Hospital releases deadly spider" really gives you the shudders!

I once found a spider in my home so big the only possible way I thought it could have gained entry is by knocking on the front door.

But seriously, spiders aren't that bad. They do have a purpose and it's much better to try and get over your phobia than to invent ways to kill them all

look up 'tegenaria gigantea' on google. this was what was next to me in the shower-i saw it out the corner of my eye and jumped out the bath, got it chucked out the back (its not fair to kill them they cant help being hideous)..then i remembered the only other time i saw one that big (4-5 inches altogether) when we lived in another house. someone put it out that time. i remember saying it was so big it had brains. sure enough it was back next day in same place. after i had this one removed from the shower, half an hr later it was trying to get back in despite being removed to the bottom of the garden. im sure this must be species specific to tegenaria gigantea as any other spider you chuck it out and it !!!!!!s off under a brick or something. not these !!!!!!s, THEY GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL PLACE YOU REMOVED THEM FROM!!!!!!! do the search, youll want to puke!
