you definitely have to claim the first time, whether or not you're drawing the state pension...
Not so, it's automatic when you start drawing the pension. You need to claim if you are deferring the pension.
Obviously men over 60 need to claim as they don't draw the pension until 65.Trying to keep it simple...

In that case you won't need to apply as the money will go directly into the bank account that your pension goes into. If someone defers their pension then they will get a letter to apply and fill in their bank details etc.
Happy Birthday for tomorrow, hope you have a great day!0 -

Hi Everyone,
My mum turns 60 in August and has been sent a form to claim her winter fuel payment for this year (she will be deferring her state pension.) My dad, however, is over 80 and has been in receipt of the highest sum available for a few years now (£300 or £400 I think.) As far as I'm aware my mum wouldn't be getting anything extra - it would just be a split between them. So should my mum still fill in this form or will my dad still get that full amount anyway rendering it unnecessary? Thanks for any clarification.
Regards

I was wondering the same as Michelle above.
Hubby is 61 and gets a benefit (invalidity or industrial injury, can't quite remember). He automatically received the winter fuel payment last year.
I was 60 in January. I have not received a form to claim winter fuel payment.
Should I fill a form in? I know we wont receive any more but I was wondering if I needed my name registering or something?0 -
If one member of the household already receives the winter fuel benefit then when a second member becomes eligible there will be no increase. The amount is the same no matter whether there are one or two of you eligible.Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!

Which is what I said in my postI know we wont receive any more but I was wondering if I needed my name registering or something?
but I did ask if I needed to register my name or something as I had not automatically received the form that Michelle mentioned that her mum had received.
So if my husband dies and the winter fuel payment has been paid out because of his benefit, what happens if I haven't had my name registered as I've reached 60?0 -

Thank you Ed.
So to have my name registered for winter 08/09 (as I was 60 in January 08), I should go to the Pension Service website to register when the new form is up sometime in July?0
