Morphy Richards Breadmaker - basic recipe

Evening
Have just got OH to get the BM out of the cupboards and have dusted off the cobwebsSorry folks.
I have decided I am going to make bread! When I have done it before, it has always come out hard and goes stale quickly. What am I doing wrong?
I would like a very basic white bread recipe for daily use (toast, sarnies, bread & butter etc). My main questions are:
(1)Can I use either dried or fresh yeast-whats the difference?
(2)Can I use normal value flour-if so which one?
(3)The dried milk powder-can I use the cheap stuff? Asdas is £2.40 for 740g-is this good value or can I get cheaper?
(4)I would like a thicko white bread recipe-anyone got one?
The BM is a Morphy Richards fast bake-anyone got one? Maybe you can give me some pointers?
Many Thanks

Ok, this is a recipe from the Panasonic book, but should be fine in your BM, although I think you might need to add the ingredients from bottom to top as I think the MR does liquids first?
It's for a basic white sandwich loaf, which after a lot of experimenting I find this one is best for sandwiches as it comes out slightly denser and softer ...
1/2 tsp yeast (dried fast acting)
400g strong white flour (tesco pink bag is fine)
1 tbsp sugar
15g butter
11/2 tbsp milk powder (any skimmed milk powder is fine)
1 tsp salt
290ml water

Hi CQ
Is this for a 1lb loaf or 2lb? Sorry, dont know if it makes any difference-will check to see if it needs to be set by weight etc
Do I add the liquids forst then the dried stuff on top? Gosh....Im so thick ...lol. I will do this...its only a BM for goodness sake.
Cheers

D'ya know I haven't a clue but at a guess I'd say it's a 1lb loaf as the quantities equate with the smallest sizes in the book.
I can't be certain about the MR, so hopefully someone else can confirm, but I've a feeling you add the water first, then the dry ingredients with the yeast last, keeping it away from the salt. Just add the ingredients as I listed them starting with the bottom one first and work up the list.
Don't use the fastbake setting, as I've heard this has poor results, so go for a basic white loaf setting and fingers crossed it will work!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I use the cheapo milk powder - it's fine. I also only use 1/4 tsp salt max and the bread is still lovely. Although I use bread flour, I have used value flour with good results and have some more to try again soon.
I mix my flours in the white recipe and still cook on the normal white prog. and had no problems. At the moment I use 100gms strong brown, 150 gms wholemeal and 250gms white (just because I want to use the strong brown up, normally just use wholemeal)
I also use olive oil instead of butter - 1 1/2 tbsp does me.
I have tried fresh yeast but you can't use that on a timer prog so I only use the dried stuff - actually use the stuff in the orange tin (Allinsons) which is meant to be for hand baking only but it's absolutely fine and much cheaper than other dried yeasts, by the looks of things.0 -
White Bread 2lb Loaf
skimmed milk 1 and a half cups (half a cup boiling one cup cold)
sunflower oil 4 tbsp
sugar 2tbsp(find it too sweet with 3)
salt 2 teasp
flour 4 cups
yeast 1 and half teasp.
Setting 1 basic
Try this one this one i did not do this on the timer and it turned out fantastic and light it raised a little too much tho and sunk back down not too far so use a little less yeast but more than 1 and a quarter i use ASDA fast action yeast maybe that is at fault as all my other bread useing skimmed milk powder turned out heavy on the tummy and my son refuses to eat home made bread anymore lol:eek:The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0 -

Asda Fast Action Dried Yeast is 56p 8 sachets one sachet is more than enough for the MR fastbake I have added a 3 to 1 mixe Tesco/Lidle bread flour 49p and ordinary cheapo plain flour worked ok for meThe solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0 -
I no longer put in milk powder and use a couple of tablespoons of olive oil spread in stead of butter. Milk powder goes off quite quickly and I found I wasn't using enough of it!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
