And everyone knows theres a stigma surrounding the 'living in parents basement' phenemenon

I didn't know it, until I read this thread.

My siblings live at home. A few of my mates do. I've never, ever, thought there was anything wrong with it.

It seems to me quite sad that some posters on this thread are so nasty about people who like living with the family they love!

There is nothing wrong with it. In fact it should be encouraged so they can save deposits and buy properties next year as house prices continue to fall.

yea this was all my point was... living with family but boasting how good it is... cause you don't have to pay bills/aka sponging... Is wrong. Deep down you know you are burdening your family with extra outgoings... and not compensating even a small amount to them.

Its expensive to raise a child... its taking the mick staying with them when you can afford to apy tour way.

This is entirely subjective, it is certainly not fact. You have mentioned this so many times and each time sounds as bitter as the last. Get it into your head, just because your relationship with your family would make you feel like you were 'sponging' does not mean that every other person would suffer from the same. When I have kids I would happily forfeit a year of an emptier house to allow them to be more financially stable.

Again, this is your opinion, it is how you would feel. It is not fact, it is not necessarily how I or anyone else would feel.

Which is more mature and responsible?
    a) live at home to save for a deposit
    b) get a 6x salary mortgage which overstretches you and end up broke and reposessed
    c) Rent.

a and c are just the same level of 'maturity'... c gives you more independance, which some would think helps make you more mature but thats another discussion.

Why is it that everyone who whinges for staying at home forgets about house sharing.. because they know its an option its just they are either afraid to share with other people, like the living at home life too much or really are scrimping like mad :P.

And everyone knows theres a stigma surrounding the 'living in parents basement' phenemenon

What is this obsession with maturity anyway? We are all adults, we all live our life how we want to. Maturity is quite difficult to define. For instance, if we looked just at this thread then it would appear that your maturity level is way below the majority which contradicts your boasting about how your situation is the one which 'mature' adults would make.

This stigma does not exist widely, infact this is the first place I have really encountered it. It's a laughable stereotype and the fact that you started using it in your very first response here onwards, rendered most of what you said useless.

As I think I said previously. People from different backgrounds and those in different situations will all form different opinions about this particular topic. But to boast and attempt to put others down just because they aren't living life the way that you think it should be lived is madness.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

I'm in an annoying situation and just venting my frustration. I'm 25 now, did the whole uni thing and now I'm in a job thats as recession proof as any other. Problem is I'm living with the folks still, thinking I can't sponge off them forever and because things are going well at work ideally its time for me to move out as a FTB.

Unfortunately for reasons everyone knows about now would appear a silly time to be buying a first home (which would be a 1 bed pokey flat in a crap area of Bristol), but thats no consolation cos I want to move out!

Anyone else in a similar situation?

There are FAR TOO MANY people like you/US. Haven't you noticed that yet?

We are just waiting for the revolution! :rotfl:

4 years before my last one hits 18...and I am quietly planning a gap year (left school and home @ 16, started family @ 24, paying mortgage since age 27, worked all hours for years.....) so my raison d'etre is to get her off to uni / college with accom........

...and I (and OH) are going to sail, or get a bike or a railcard or whatever and we are going to have a gap year :T .

I am planning it now. 4 years to get mortgage free / DF, 4 years to finalise my business, 4 years to organise stepping out of my life and day to day responsibilities.

Watch out those who stay at home M + D might have plans too.
