Hello everyone,
Im very confused:-) Ive been looking at the Tiscali £19.99/mth deal and BT's deals and cant decide whats best value!! Were moving into the house soon, it has cable...which im told makes a difference?!? Any help greatly appriciated!!
Thank you!!!0 -
Well if the new property is in a cabled area then that should just INCREASE the number of potential providers - eg VirginMedia/ntl as an alternative to having everything based on your phoneline.
So (1) you'd have just the traditional voice phone line onto which ADSL service can be added - and that ADSL service also used for datastreams of TV programmes/films/sports downloaded to a box in the house, such as BT's or Tiscali's TV/video boxes
- someone charges your for telephone line rental
- someone charges you for calls on that line
- someone charges you for ADSL service on that line (eg + optional "TV" services)
I believe ALL BT & Tiscali's services are based on the phoneline.
(2) a cable provider (eg VirginMedia/ntl) provide voice/TV/data services down their specialist cable (optical fibre and/or coax) and that one cable operator charges you for whatever 'bundle' you buy.
The SamKnows Mapping system should give u a pretty accurate view of who/what is on offer:

if your new house has cable, not bt phone it makes all the difference, neither is (easily) available, though (probably) virgin would be.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Whatever you do, do not sign up with Tiscali. I have been with them for several years, just on broadband, which has been fine, but decided to go with all in package, it has been a nightmare. They have been quick enough to take my phone, but the broadband limit is still 512. In the last 3 weeks I have phoned them 6 times on 0871 which is not covered by the package, to try and sort out my broadband, they do not know what they are doing, cant get anything right, and keep telling me to upgrade on line or be transferred to technical department. I have had enough and will try to get my MAC code tomorrow to transfer to a company that uses UK call centres, I might have to pay more but at least I can have peace of mind. By the way, they cold called me to upgrade, and they still couldn't get that right. Sign up at your own peril.0

Hi all. I have a question that I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with. I'm currently with Orange for mobile, broadband & calls but I'm rather unhappy with the stability of the connection and the quality of their customer service so I was looking to change.
A friend recommended TISCALI but I've read mostly bad reviews so I'm wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
I'm after a provider that allows me free evening & weekend calls (ideally with line rental), unlimited broadband and has customer service centres in this country. Oh, I should also say that I use an Apple Mac. I also live in a listed building so can't have a satelite dish nor do we have cable.0 -

This has no bearing on your BB supplierAgentOrange wrote: »

if that were a friend of mine they'd now be an ex-friend!
i believe bt have call packages including free calls, i only use my mobile so don't know.
unlimited broadband is available for around £80/month, are you sure this is what you are after, or perhaps you want a high download cap, or perhaps traffic shaping?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
My son is just moving to a room in rented house central Norwich. He's been told he can't have Virgin as 3 cables in already being used, but no problem as he's heard its rubbish service.
He has restarted BT line in his room and its costing £11 per month incl free evening/weekend calls.
So he just needs BB, may be 2 meg. He plays online games and downloads quite a few albums.
02 isn't available here unfortunately as he has 02 mobile and would be good deal.
Can anyone suggest best BB for him please and most reasonable cost, without too many problems, I did see Tiscali offer but have been put off by peoples bad experience with them.
Thanks0
