Hello, i have the new e-mail regarding the 6/month sky package and it looks ok but its extremely hazy

What is the best way to get the cheapest package that includes:
Broadband - Minimum 5gb / month as i feel 2 would be too low as i download alot! UNLIMITED atm
Phone - Doesnt matter we can discard but if its extremely cheap then include
TV - The best tv package offered for the money

Price is the bigguest issue but then quality is a matter especially in the TV range and then broadband is a requirement not on speed but on monthly allowance

This is for my parents as im given the task to search... so far i have found sky to be pretty good but all their feedback says they are extremely bad

All i've heard is alot of the big 3/4 in one bundle deals have poor customer service. Sky is probably the best, however someone else may find a gem for you. With Quidco you can get £150 cashback which makes it £6 - no complaints there!

You asked for 5Gb download atleast which Sky might do (i switched to Plusnet's basic so this offer is no good for me) i'm not sure, if so im sure it will only be about £5 more per month.

If you look on the site under utilites and phone you can see ALL the packages recomended.

I hope this helps a little.

  • For more info on the £6/month Sky offer see this thread

If you can get the £150 cashback, going with Sky is a no-brainer as you can't get even get broadband for £6/month, let alone TV + broadband.

TV: Best value is probably 6 entertainment mixes for £21/month (since you get charged £16/month for 1 mix alone).

Broadband: Sky Mid package sounds like the most suitable for your requirements.
I wouldn't say Sky Broadband are that bad an ISP as long you can get the LLU packages (Max, Mid, Base). Sky Broadband Connect (what they offer you if Sky LLU hasn't been enabled in your exchange) is a totally different story and definitely not worth the £17/month. Have a read here on thinkbroadband and ISPReview and make up your own mind.

LLU (which stands for Local Loop Unbundling) is an alternative to IPStream, the de facto standard for broadband provision in the UK. See:
    http://www.llu.org.uk/

The Samknows Broadband checker tells you all the services you can get on your line, e.g.:

  • OP, there are no real savings to be made by getting phone and broadband from the same provider unless you go with TalkTalk or Tiscali (both dreadful ISPs that should be avoided at all costs).

This is what you pay for 'free landline calls 24/7' with other providers:

BT: Option 3 £4.49/month; BT Line rental £10.50/month
Madasafish: Talk Anytime £5.99/month; Madasafish Line rental £9.99/month
Eclipse: TalkMore £5.99/month; BT Line rental £10.50/month

I'd just stick with BT for phone and choose the best ISP I can get for my money. I've posted my suggestions in the Updated Find the cheapest broadband discussion thread.

Bearing in mind that you can get Free Evening and Weekend 01/02 Calls anyway from BT or Primus Saver plus you can get Peak 01/02 calls for just 5p a call from www.18185.co.uk is it worth paying for a 24/7 call bundle. Plus if you use this method you dont pay when your not using it eg Holidays.Unlike a monthly bundle.

For b'band, go for O2 - 12.50 p.m. (and 7.50 p.m. if u have a contract mobile with them) for upto 8 MB and unlimited downloads (fair usage policy applies, but it is very liberal). The service + support is excellent so far (had it for the last 3 months)and there is a 100 day money back guarantee as well.

for free calls, sign up with Primus (see the main site) if you have a BT line. remember there's a 5-6p connection charge for every "free call".

pop over to dslzone and check out some of the comments, orange's current rating is 35/37.
    a few comments below
"Technical support and customer service, useless, most unhelpful."
"paying 17quid for a speed little better than dial up, can't wait to leave. Warning don't ever get tempted by their special offers, they make promises and never deliver them."
    " never works peak time"
" The support is appalling and they treat you with contempt"
"Typical Orange support experience: wireless connection to Livebox failed and expensive (approx £8) support call achieved nothing. ."

i could go on, there are some positive comments, but very few!
