Council house entitlement!!!

Give us the figures you would look for if you had, say, £2m to spend.
I guess you're revenues will be pretty rubbish at the moment - possibly making less than if you were to put your money in a decent savings account. However, I guess your long term growth potential is good - if you can ride out the troughs you'll reap your rewards with the highs - and why not if you take the risk fair play. I guess though depending on what they do with CGT etc.
I only have one house, but I do wish I had the nerve to get into the property market - for the long term of course.0 -
So then why are the council allowing people to stay in 3 bedders (could sleep 5 people)?
Seems like a family somewhere is probably missing out.
Addy I don't know the exact circumstances but my guess would be that they would offer your grandparents a one bed - they are a couple with no dependents - they don't need a two bed they would like a two bed and why not - they've worked hard all their lives etc. Like I said depends on how the affordable landlord interprets the policy but if being strict your grandparents are better of staying put if they want the space - clearly health issues may prevail and then the affordable landlord must (I use that word lightly) help with adaptations etc. There might not be any bungalows available, there may be people in more need than your grandparents.
Have they thought about going into semi sheltered accommodation? These can often offer guest rooms for when people stay etc.0 -

They said they would shoot each other before moving in to sheltered accomodation
They are very stubborn and it took my mum ages to get them to consider the bungalow. I think they will stay put now, their health is fine now (they still drive and are totally independent).
My mum eventually offered to buy them a flat or a bungalow but they wouldn't because they were worried about repairs which they are used to the council doing. Even when mum said she would act like the council and get everything fixed they still wouldn't move.
I suppose moving from a house you have lived in for 55 years and brought up your children in is huge thing for people of that age.0 -
How about advertising for a bungalow/house swap in local newsagents windows?
It could work to two families advantage.Loving the dtd thread. x0 -
I think it is too late now for them to move. They would have done it a few years ago. They were actually told by the housing officer that they were 5th on the list and there were 7 flats/bungalow things, but after their application they didn't get it.
That has knocked their confidence and now I think it is just all too much for them to think about.
They also got told by the officer that because they had been impeccable tenants over the last 55 years(!) and kept the house immaculate, that they would be at an advantage.
It is a shame as the area they live in was nice when my mum was a kid, but now they are the only house in the street who pay rent.

Our local council allow people who are downsizing an extra bedroom, so would happily allow people with a one bed need in a three bed house a two bed property. It is funny how all councils are different, and our local council have a huge need for proerties with an average 8 year wait for the property you would *need*.Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.

To add to the fact they have been in one place for 55 years, they also both grew up one street away

Things were different in those days and they still believe home owning to be irresponsible. (although some people on here would agree with that sentiment!)0 -
People like that are the salt of the earth, Addy1.
Why shouldn't they live where and how they want to live? Good luck to them.
