Late Payment Charges.

I recieved my NatWest credit card bill for January stating paymnet must be made by 7th Feb so I posted a chq on Jan 29th and sent it first class. When my statement arrived it stated the payment was recieved on March 8th so I incurred a twelve pound late payment charge.
I was annoyed about this as I have no control over mail delivery and left adequate time to recieve this payment but I let it go.
This month my payment date is the 7th of March so to ensure prompt payment I went into my local NatWest branch and paid in cash on the 6th March. Today i recieved my statement and I have been charged TWELVE POUNDS again saying the payment was processed on the 9th of March.
How can this be right has anyone else had problems like this. I always pay my credit card in full each month but it seems like a no win situation apart from paying 2/3 weeks early which seems ridiculous.

Pay in full by direct debit in future and you won't have problems like this.

what do the payment details on your statement say about the timescales for paying?... they are usually quite clear although I have no specific knowledge of nat west

or set up a DD for the full amount

or pay using online payment methods .. you still need a 2/3 working days but better than paying by snail mail

Most cards state that payment must be made 3 or 4 working days before the due date, including cash payments at a bank.

Check the small print on the rear of your statement.

Regular users of MSE will know there are many people that don't do this and then moan on here when they are stung.

All I will say is well done on swelling their coffers to the tune of £24 for nothing in return.
  • exactly the same thing happened to me, so I wrote a letter to Natwest saying I had never defaulted on a payment and that I thought it was wrong to charge me a late payment fee... they credited back twelve pounds a month later....
  • I Appreciate That If I Paid At Another Bank I Would Be Late Paying But I Paid Direct To The Natwest So Why The Delay?
  • When I queried it they said even though i paid through my local Natwest branch it still took seven days to clear!! Who knows how the a****** work!!!!

Probably because although they are both part of the Natwest group, Natwest Credit Card services, and Natwest Bank are run as two separate departments, so transfers between them are subject to the same delays as any other transaction between two companies
  • So Basically Just Another Money Makin Racket Perhaps I Should Get Rid Of The Card Perhaps They Dont Like Customers Like Myself Who Pay The Balance Off, Perhaps Its The Only Way They Can Make Money Out Of Me As They Dont Get Any Interest Charges From Me.

You can hardly blame the credit card company if you do not read the T & C which state you will incur a £12 pound fee if you do not pay in time, I pay my balance off every month with the only credit card I have, however I always make sure it is paid on time so I do not pay any charges.

And your caps key seems to be sticking every word you type begins with a capital letter.
