Would be great if someone could advise me.
I basically want to change from orange PAYG to Orange Contract so I would need to Port out to another network and then immediately port back into orange.
Which network would be best suited for this? Do they have time limits which prevent this from happening or any charges?
I have an T-Mobile, O2 and I think Vodafone sim somewhere nearby
Thanks for your help

I would've thought you could transfer your number to orange contract with out having to port out.
Try calling customer services.

Tried this last year and they said it wasn't possible. I don't know if this is really the case or if they're really being unhelpful. Something about me opening a contract as a new customer whereas I'm a returning customer on PAYG.
Anyway, I used Virgin in switching from Orange to Orange, as I had a free SIM lying around. Helpfully, I never waited more than 5 minutes to speak to a human being, unlike my usual 2 hour wait on Orange. I was honest as to why I was transferring and so on, and Virgin didn't have a problem with it.
There are no time limits per se, but each time the number-transfer date may be a week or two in the future - don't expect to have all of this sorted overnight, it'll take a couple of weeks.0 -

Yes you can upgrade directly from Orange PAYG to contract. No PAC or porting out is required. I have done it, and a friend did the same last month.
Phone their sales line and tell them that's what you want to do. In my experience they will match any offers on the Orange website if you ask. An Orange shop can also arrange the upgrade but normally the website has better offers than the shops.0 -
cheers guys. I gave orange a call they said its no problem...we shall see. I'm buying from CPW not from orange

Make sure they understand and do it. In an Orange store it should take about 15 mins. But I know from experience that dealerships can screw they transfer (or just plain not do it). I recommend staying in the store until it's done...0

My guess is that you are taking out a cheap cashback contract and I know from experience that you have problems in those circumstances.
In my view Virgin are the bst to do a quick change and for what it is worth they have some great Virgin deals of 6months free at carphone warehouse which only require one claim at the end of 6 months which you have 90 days to claim. So having had the same problem as you I took out a 6month contract with virgin and ported the number across from O2 and will probably get a new contract with o2 or Orange after the 6 months.0
