We're with Eon and I was just updating our bank details to a new account.
Before you get a confirm thing they tell you if your payments need to change.
They have decided that ours need to go from £153 per month to, now get this,
£404 per month! I am gobsmacked and left wondering if Eon have a problem with their system..
Our last combined quarterly bill was £356.
While we did owe them some money it has been paid off so we owe nothing.
Time for us to switch I think!

This problem has just got stupidly worse..........

On the 16th april, i got a overdue bill for 978.91, saying must pay immediatley.

Phoned eon and said i thought this was under investigation, they said yes it was, ignore letter, computer sent it out.
I actually said to this woman......." can you assure me the computer wont automatically pass to debt collection until this is sorted" she said " there was no way this could happen".

Today sat, i got debt collection letter, there coming to turn power off if bill not paid by 7th may. As this is a bank holiday, i cnat even sort this out till tues 6th.

I cant believe this has happened, and not sure what i can do.
Eon are definatley in the wrong, but once debt collection has a bill, am i right in thinking eon have written it off, and i have no way of arguing this.

    Please help

I did manage to get my bills printed off, eon has my final reading 06/01 as 66028 + 36434.
but my final reading with npower on 15/03 was
    57619 + 36274.

Looks like they just make up any old figure they want, could understand if it was one figure out

Really annoyed that i cant get hold of them till tues, i`m sure computers send out errors on bank holidays on purpose....

  • We tried to change the account we paid from and was told we owed about £1000 as all our bills had been estimated for 2 years and when they updated the reading we had been paying too little. They said the best they could do was over 4 months. We left and Eon called to ask why we were leaving, after explaining they agreed we could pay a lowered amount over 12 months. Then we get the larger payment taken on the 1st may, instead of the reduced amount. Having contacted Eon they said they had no record of us setting a new amount and they would have sent a letter saying what the direct debit would be but after they had taken the payment (letter never arrived)
I called energywatch, who opened a complaint for me and then put me through to the highest level of complaints at Eon. Eon have reduced the payments and as a gesture i asked for our bank charges to be paid, which they have. We are paying by standing order so that they cannot take a larger amount again if there is a 'problem' with the system again.
Call energywatch on 08459 06 07 08 and explain. It took about an hour fro me to get it all sorted but both energywatch and Eon were very helpful. I also found out that new legislation that they can only claim back for a year's bill now as of july 2007, there are exceptions but should look into it

I just switched to EON and I got a letter asking me to give the meter readings to them and then to the current supplier to ensure an accurate switch

im also disputing my balance with eon which has took over 2 years and im still no where further . I've currenty recieved bills and statements which i asked for. When i looked throught my statement i noticed for 7 days for gas they are charging me £86 which is over £10 per day i dont think thats possible. When i confrounted them they said it was estimated, yet they have charged me £245 for 132 days which i thought was fine but they also told me this was estimated but because the accurate reading was so close they just kept the estimated on the bill. So if they are saying that my reading for 7days was estimated and isnt an accurate why have they kept that on my statement and added that sum to my balance.. im so confused the person from eon who is dealing with me is not helpful at all. i have went to citizens advice which dont seem to be helping me either... my advice to any one who wants to switch to eon STAY WELL AWAY !

    Hi xlindseyx,

The important thing to check is the most up to date reading is correct. Then check the previous reading is also accurate. If the previous reading is not correct it means your last bill was estimated.

Unless you took an actual reading at the date of your last bill, its unlikely E.ON can change it now. Essentially as long as the last reading is accurate, the bill will now be up to date and you will have been charged for the entirety of the energy you’ve used.

What do you mean by your first sentence? Have you been billed during the two year period? Or have you disputed the bills you have received during this period?

  • I been disputing my bill for over 2years .. i had meters installed while i was getting my balance sorted and agreed they could take £6 a week of both my meters till my problem was resolved .. which never happened... My statements make no sence what so ever i understand that the have to bill me by my meter reading but surly when they noticed that on my statement i was getting charged more than £10 per day for gas that something was wrong!.. i live in a small 2 bedroom house its impossible and do not use my gas that often which i obviously cant prove.. I also have statements of meter readings when my meters where installed and i was paying £10-£15 per week on gas.. and arnt meters supposed to be my expensive??? i dont seem to be getting much sence from anyone at eon to be honest the person im dealing with seems arrogant! ..this company have put me through so much distress and the citizens advice have even suggested i go through a small type of backrupty because of this... I on the other hand wanted to take this matter to court ive just had enough !
  • Received a key from Eon today telling me that me that I have to use thier key to get gas... I thought !!!!!! are they on about, phoned BG and told them. apparently EON have hi-jacked my account saying we wanted to change to them, NOT on your bloody nelly Eon last thing I want is to join any company from accross the channel

Lindsey - I know not much can be done about it now - but why on earth did you agree to have a prepaymentm meter when the outstanding balance was disputed by you? You are now in a very weak bargaining position
