  • We have a water softener fitted, so use a Tap Works drinking water system too, costs about 50 pounds per year, change the cartridge every 6 month's or so.

the good point is we do not have to switch off the water supply first, when the unit (the cartridge ) is unscreewed it stops the water supply automaticly, well it has every time so far

Sounds good can anyone use Costco?

Unfortunately not. It is a fee paying membership only cash and carry, but depends on what occupation you are in - education, legal, local govt., health service, fire and rescue services are some. Their website is here:

    http://www.costco.co.uk/

However, you may find a friend who has a card :) Also, it's best part of £30 per year, but I saved £80 today on my tyres alone.

Oh well, the Argos deal seems quite good anyway. Going to buy it next week (and then no more spending till after Hols Honest).

Also have the Brita filter, wouldn't drink tap water now, you really can taste the difference.

Boots sometimes do offers on the filters ( 3 for the price of 2) so worth stocking up then (and getting your boots points!)

Boots online has some filter jugs half price in their clearance section.

Hope this is helpful to someone!

I drink bottled water and am thinking of buying a water filter jug instead. Do they make a difference to the taste of water? Does it become a gadget that's never used?

We used to have a filter jug as I can't stand the taste of the tap water where I live, but now we have a filter tap unit that OH plumbed in (bought it from Screwfix) It didn't take long to install and the filter only needs to be changed every 6 months. You end up with an extra little tap by the sink, but it doesn't clog up space in the fridge and is much handier for filling the kettle!

We have a fridge water filter that is slim enough to fit in the door space. Our tap water isn't nasty tasting but we like to drink it chilled and thought it may remove any potential impurities. To be honest though I don't change the filter as often as once a month as I don't feel that it reduces the quality of the water by not doing it.
  • I always use a water filter, I change the filter at the start of each month, I buy 3 filters for £4.50 at Wilkinsons, the jug was £5 and came from there. It will fit in the fridge door but I don't bother. I only like fizzy water so I fizz it up with my second-hand Soda Stream and put that bottle in the fridge!

Edit: I don't fizz all the water! I put it straight from the jug into the kettle and cooking pans.

At home, we use a water filter. I'm not bothered about the water from the tap if I'm having it with squash in, but by itself its not as nice. So yes, I recommend one!
