Timmo, I have exactly the same problem now. I signed up with them 2 years ago when It cost me £12 including the cashback. The following year, August 2012 I received a letter but I was in the middle of a difficult personal situation and could not reply and cancel, they increased it to £43 so I just accepted it (I can imagine this happens to many people and that's how they make a lot of profit). Now I have received exactly the same letter where it goes up to £62 for the same silver membership. I do not wish to go ahead plus the last time they helped me it took them 2 hours to arrive at my location. I am in a position now where I can take the time to try and cancel. I say 'try' cause I have been trying many times and they won't pick up the phone plus it costs me money from my mobile phone, and when you manage to speak with any other department they are just unable to help and they tell you that someone will call you, which never happens!!! I would like to get this sorted before the 8th that's when they will take the payment from my account. Never ever with AA again!!!
And even when you do get through they will give you the run-around saying that the computer was currently off line (at last this is what they did to me).
Best to use the old fashioned method of pen and paper with proof of postage. This is what I resorted to. Would never, ever deal with these sharks again as I don't like to be take for a fool. If I want a service, I ask for it, pay. If not, I expect to be able to cancel said service.0 -

or so I though as I cancelled my renewal last year.
But no, they took the money anyway, shame on me for not noticing on my statement!
Somebody at the AA won't like my phone when I get home from work today.0 -

I too have experienced charges from AA which have come as a complete shock. I cancelled my AA car insurance and related products 3weeks ago and have now checked my bank statement and have been charge £62 for AA membership. When I spoke to the person on the phone I made it clear that I wanted everything cancelled. I did not receive any correspondence suggesting that my membership would continue.
This is unacceptable.0 -

I have emailed and haven't received a response. Waiting on the phone for over 30 minutes and conveniently your offices close at 8pm. I will be calling first thing this morning.0 -

I've just had the same thing happen. Not renewal letters, new policy docs, nothing! Just received my bank statement and the AA has taken almost £250 out of my bank!!
I didn't realise it was an 'autorenewing' service, when I was sold it I bought as a year's service not a lifetime contract. Obviously in the small print. I called them up straightaway but apparently i am now outside the 14 day cancellation period. How can I cancel when I haven't received anything from them to tell me that they had autorenewed my membership!?! No letters, not emails, no phone calls, nothing.
Their customer services were rude and basically told me to shove off.
DO NOT USE THE AA. NEVER EVER AGAIN, WORST COMPANY EVER CONNING THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS.
No wonder everybody leaves them. So stressed now as no money for food and heating this month
I cannot believe it is legal for companies to small print these clauses that let them renew and charge you whatever without notifying you, warning you or getting your authorisation. Disgraceful.:mad:0 -

I am in shock that the AA also just automatically charged me and I recieved no letter for my renewal. I might have happily renewed with them (albeit not at the price they automatically charged a 2 month expired credit card with!!!) I have emailed requesting a refund, lets hope it doesn't take too long as my credit card has now been maxed out by this charge I was not even notified of!
No new policy details or anything! Shocking!!!!0
