Am I eligible to use a Family Railcard?
To be eligible to use a Family Railcard, your group must consist of at least one named card holder and one child (5 -15 years of age). The named card holder must travel with any accompanying passengers for whom discounted tickets are purchased for the entire journey.0 -

I'm sure the T&Cs for the railcard state that you can still count the 16 year old as a child if they turn 16 in the year that you purchased the card. So I hope for you that it will still apply to the trial one.
Edited - just found itSpecial notes regarding children's tickets
Children aged under 16 at the time that the Railcard is purchased may still travel at the discounted child's fare throughout the validity period of the Railcard, even though they become 16 years old during that time.0 -
