  • When i was a PhD student at Leeds, i got £15/hour for teaching biochem/molec bio practicals and £20/hour for taking medical student tutorials.

    I think this has kind of gone off topic though. To the OP, if you are not happy with the course then i suggest you speak to your year reps / personal tutor. Unfortunatly uni lectuers and post grad students are very busy people - you need to to show them that you have done the relevent work before the practicals before they are likely to offfer extra help. They should point you in the direction of some good books / papers though.
