Larnaca for north cyprus ?

I have heard you can now fly into the south and then go up north and stay. Anyone know if this is correct?

. Quite correct there, it takes me 75 mins to drive from Larnaca to Home(Kyrenia), border is open 24/7.
A pre booked taxi is normally 40 GBP, or you can of course hire a car and drive across(You will need local insurance approx 3.00 GBP per day), its actually a very straight forward drive, you'll find this side far less commercialised and virtually crime free. if you need any further info on the North, these two sites are excellent or just PM me

I'm not certain this is true.

Last time I heard, the Greek Cypriot car hire companies were reluctant to let their cars cross the border, and the insurance you buy is hardly 'comprehensive'

    Maybe look at

for a 'southerners' point of view.

I think the 'southern' insurance is invalid once you cross the border and the 'northern' insurance can be a bit dubious. Certainly the hire car I had last year (booked through Argus Car Hire but was from Alamo) and the one I have booked for this year (through Ecomony Car Rentals) state in the small print that insurance is invalid once you cross the Green Line.

Although it is possible, and a friend of a friend does it using a taxi, it's always worth remembering relationships between North and South are not perfect and the border could close ay anytime.

No disrespect intended, but i live here and see hire cars from the south all the time. Shall look for their company logos and re-post.

TTOLI - I agree the border has been open for a few years now without problem and there is hopes another point at Ledra Street will be open soon (as featured in todays Cyprus Mail) but it's not to say the volatile past couldn't reignite - rightly or wrongly I was just erring on the side of caution when I wrote my post.

Even if relations should change, there would be no problem to a non Greek or Turkish national leaving Northern Cyprus.

Why does the OP not go via Turkey? Fly to Turkey & change?

The only part of that I would be cautious about is bringing the hire car over the boarder.
