Berketex Bride

  • I have ordered my dress from Berketex in Grantham. I went in at the weekend (22/10/11) and received a lovely service from the shop manager, however I do have to say the assistant who was helping other brides seemed next to useless. There were only 2 changing rooms but they were large and had wide full length mirrors in them. The manager went and fetched 4 extra chairs for my bridal party as there was another bride with 3 friends sitting on the sofa provided. The manager knew what she was talking about with regards to size and shape and was very helpful and seemed to enjoy what she does. As with any shop, independent or a chain, the service depends on the sales person and not the shop itself.

Although from reading some of the posts it has got me worried about when I go for dress fittings in 6 months. I'll have to update as to how I get on then.

I'm getting quite concerned now, I went into Debenhams Glasgow Berketex and a woman from the Bath St store was working there that day, she was excellent, really nice and I bought a dress.

Then when I went in to show my friend my dress the staff were just rude and had no interest helping me.

Apparently I'll need to get my fittings at the Debenhams store as that's where I bought it but really not looking forward to it now after meeting the normal staff in the store. And especially after your experience with Glasgow staff pinkpolarbear.

Good luck to you with your complaint!
  • That doesnt hold out much hope for me then... Im visiting Berketex Manchester on Saturday and will definitely not be buying a dress £1000+

  • I agree with sammy_wheeler, these posts are three years old and i got my dress very recently from Berketex and every aspect of the service i received was nothing less than brilliant, it is common sense to make an appointment rather than browse so that you get alotted time with an assistant an this is exactly what i got, one to one help from my own assistant who was very professional and made sure to find a beautiful dress that flattered my figure and was within my budget, and i also made sure i went along when there was an offer on so that i could get the best deal. A lot of bridal stores charge for alterations, which brides should also know before they start looking and i thought that Berketex's was low compared to others. Every fitting i went to was as delightful as the first appointment and they wern't annoyed when i took a few of my bridal party along to see me dress, everyone has their opinion of a store but personally i cannot fault them and i will be going back for my accessories as i have seen a gorgeous veil! :)

You obviously didn't go to the Aberdeen store. went with my friend when she was trying on bridal dresses and it didn't seem too bad, other than cramped, but I found it to be the worst of all the places I went for dresses (and I went to LOTS!)

I booked an appointment on one of the sales weekends, as that happened to fall on the same weekend that I started dress shopping, but when I turned up the shop was half empty - of dresses and customers. I was the only bride to be trying on dresses but I was put in the furthest away dressing room with my bridal party squished in a corner. The full length mirror was covered so viewing the dresses was a challenge in itself, and the assistant did not listen to a word I said with regards to the dresses. When pointing out what I did and did not like about the dresses, instead of offering a solution or alternative dresses to try on I received a "well that's the way it comes". I was not asked about my budget (which I preferred to be honest) but boy did the hard sell come as we tried to leave.

I was planning to go back another weekend as you were only supposed to try on 5 dresses on the sales appointment, but there was no way I was spending any money there. It's a shame as there was a nice dress I did quite like, but when spending that much money service does count, and there was none of that.

  • I went to the glasgow store. The main thing that put me off was when i asked the girl about their basement discount shop she said the closed it due to flooding, fair enough. Half way through my appt she told me the dresses are stored in the basement! Didnt like the idea of them sitting in a damp room. The assistant was nice but very pushy!! I had booked a bridal appt (1hr) + bridesmaid (30mins) and even though i was done sooner she spun it out for the full time. We had been to a coyple of appts so was so tired. Got into trouble for moving to the wrong seat when my sis was trying on dresses. A shop that gives £200 discount before i ask must be overpriced. Sarah-louise bridal was a worse experience!
  • I actually went to the Nottingham store and found it to be a really nice shop, comfortable and i had no problem getting mirror space. The staff sold me the benefits of the dress but were not pushy about it. At the end of the day that's their job. Anyone that has worked in any kind of sales knows this. I know that one of the days i had a few appointments in other boutiques, because the first two had gone so badly i was in a bad mood for the third even though it was an amazing appointment. I think it depends on the bride's patience and mood, the store itself as their are many Berketex stores throughout the UK, and also if you happen to catch one of the staff on a bad day. I think that Berketex as a whole is brilliant for service, quality and making us B2B's feel special :)

MissBella - 2 posts, both praising Berketex - if I were a cynical person, I would think that perhaps you worked for them ;)

  • Surely if i worked for them i would be praising the stores where people had problems? what I said is that i went to the Nottingham store and had a good experience so maybe it is just different stores or staff. Just because someone went to Berketex and enjoyed their appointment doesn't mean they work for them :')

I must be a cynical person as well then!

As a side note, surely it's better to having one thread about something, rather than millions? As someone pointed out, it would probably have been merged anyway. I'm glad that this thread has been brought back, I was thinking about going to Berkatex, but certainly won't bother now!
