Berketex Bride

I had a wonderful wedding on 28th September 2007 and wore a gorgeous dress from Berketex. The day went without a hitch, however I nearly went up the aisle in my pajamas. I was exhausted and stressed. Berketex lost my dress but never acknowledged this to me. I chased them for 4 weeks prior to the wedding and by some miracle the dress arrived 6 days before the wedding. I had to be available by their terms of trade for a minimum of 3 fittings prior to the day. Consequently I took time off work and collected the dress at 6pm the night before the wedding. Furthermore I suffered personal injury. When removing my dress the fitter had not positioned the pins correctly and so managed to scratch quite deeply down my legs. I now have scars.
This was a horrific experience and what is more I did not even receive an apology from the store. Nor when I was in floods of tears in store did I get a glass of water (against health and safety apparently) and was offered a bit of toilet paper to blow my nose.
My dress cost a whopping £2,000 but whatever the price every bride and individual deserves value for money when it comes to the service as well as the goods.
I am now fighting Berketex for compensation and an apology. They are not forthcoming and I am now having to employ a solicitor.
I warn all brides out there when dealing with this Company, they do not take pride in their service and are not competent.
I am deeply disappointed and frustrated, I should have stuck with a nice pair of pjs from M&S!

God that is so awful! I really feel your frustration, but i am glad it all worked out in the end for you and you had a lovely day. I am pleased you have got a solicitor, these big companies i personally feel don't give a damn, and for that amount of money you really feel that they should, it may not be company policy regarding the glass of water, for health & safety reason, (i wonder what they drink?) But any human being would offer support to any one that was in distress, surely???
Good luck

I had the misfortune to visit one of their shops last week and because i was only browsing the staff treated me like a leper... they need to get some serious customer service training sorted.... I am pleased to say though I did find a dress from another shop, the staff were very welcoming, pleasant, knowledgable of all their stock and made me feel like i was important and they wanted to do their very best by me, the shop i used was debenhams in the metrocentre and i say well done girls you are brilliant
I have just popped on to the Debenhams web site and sent an email to them congratulating them.I no longer have Blonde or Senior moments... these are now CRAFT moments:D

OOOHHHH!!!
Berketex... They were thoroughly vile when i went in there... It was as if they could pick and choose their customers. They looked me up and down and were very patronising, my bridesmaid and i actually felt uncomfortable so left the shop...
It was a bit of a pretty women moment if you know what i mean!!!
They obviously all come from the same Bonkers Berkertex Club and i
am getting my dress from somewhere else too!!
You go get them girl..........

Can I just add that I went into Berketex in Liverpool last week with my daughter and 2 very young children. All the dresses were made to order which i hadnt realised, and the wedding was in 8 weeks, the lady was SO nice, she go loads of sale stock from down stairs and shut up the shop for her to try on. The one that she like was reduced to £490 and she said she would do it for £350. So I cant complain about the service, although we ended up buying a dress somewhere else0

hiya,
I have ordered my dress through berkertex bride in Leeds (wedding in July) and have been pleased with them so far. there was a bit of a hard sell last year, when I ordered the dress, which I found quite annoying. The dress was the perfect one though!
Since then they have been very good. i have been back in a few times eg to try the dress on with my bridesmaid and my mum, and for measuring etc and they were very helpful and accomodating.
Hop[efully other people have also had a positive experience. i'm sorry to hear of those that didn't.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience with Berketex pinkpolarbear
I decided not to touch them with a barge pole after I'd gone in to try dresses. Potentially a lucky escape by the sounds of it.
I'd booked an appointment (which you'd think would get you a changing room, right?) but when I arrived it was heaving and there was nowhere free for me. The woman left me standing in the middle of the shop for about 5 minutes while she kept wandering up and down the store trying to pilfer any spare chairs to sit down on while we waited for a changing room. Me and friend decided to have a nose through the dresses and were shocked that there wasn't a single one under £1000 (previous dress I'd found and loved in Pronuptia I'd thought was expensive at £880!). Didn't like any of the styles either.
So when the woman finally came back to me with a chair to sit on I explained I'd looked through the dresses and they were more than I wanted to pay, to which she looked a bit taken aback and then told me there were some on the sale rail out back.
At that point I didn't think I had anything to lose, so told her what style I liked (strapless, fishtail, lots of sparkle and detailing) and off she went.
She came back with the plainest meringue dress I've ever seen in my life, pointing out that this one was reduced to £295. Like that was suddenly the most important thing! I think I said something along the lines of 'no it's a bit too plain for my liking' to which she just said 'oh' and then disappeared off out back again, only to return with a bridesmaids dress in brown!!!!!
I ask you.
She might as well have said "we have nothing here for you. Please leave" a la Pretty Woman.
I thought their service was incredibly poor and the dress range minimal and overpriced.0 -
Sorry about your dress but glad it worked out for you.
I also have to agree about the bad service in Berketex, though my experience is nowhere near as bad as yours.
I went there with my mum and 2 sisters near the beginning of my shopping for a dress. It nearly put me off completely. I had an appointment which I booked well in advance, though this did not mean I got a mirror to look in or that the people who were with me had a seat to sit on!!
I arrived early and my sisters, who were shopping, joined us there. While my sister was helping me look she put her bags down in a corner (out of the way) but the girl came looking for her and told her she would have to carry the bags while looking.
When I had chosen some dresses I was told that many don't come in white (though I was not told this or which ones before choosing - only 1 dress I liked actually came in white!!) I was taken through to a changing room and 'dressed'. When I came out another bride and her family had been sat around the only mirror area in a circle. My family were squashed onto 2 seats in the corner and I had to look in the mirror from behind the other bride - another mirror was never offered, nor was I really allowed the time to wait for her to finish so I could look properly. It also seemed to me that the assistants just wanted you to buy a dress, no matter what it looked like on you. I was told a dress looked great when it was clearly one of the most unflattering dresses I have ever tried on. The other bride was trying on a dress that did not flatter her figure and the assistant was telling her it was beautiful and the best one she had seen and that she should just go for it!!!
After trying on 3 dresses I said that I liked one and asked her to keep a note of it - just so I could leave! I will never be back there. I have had much much better service elsewhere. Beware everyone, their dresses are overpriced and service is awful!!!0 -
Hi Pink Polar Bear
I am so glad someone is standing up to them. I had exactly the same situation when i went to try on my dress to in bristol. I still have the photos and letters and would willing let you have a copy of these for your solicitor. They promised me back in August last year that they had taken extra steps to prevent this happening again. I ended up with a 10inch scratch all down my leg. It was so bad the blood was dripping all over the dress. To make things worse they left the dress there for other people to try on!
I wrote to them and they gave me £75 off another dress, which I used for a bridesmaid dress and have had even more trouble with them since. My wedding is in 3 weeks time and the bridesmaid dress is slightly too small and they are not prepared to do anything to rectify it or help. It does look like they may have taken the bust measurement incorrectly as you can see where they have crossed out the half a size on the form. When i explain that brides entrust companies such as themselves as this was a big day, they werent remotely interested!
What makes me more upset than anything is that on both ocassions they tried to blame me! Nice for a bride to feel like that. For everyone else reading this STAY CLEAR OF BERKETEX. It is costly, and i thought i was getting a service that was going to be superior! That is not the case.

i have ordered my dress from Berketex Bride and couldn't be more happier with the service i received.
the shop assistant was lovely and made me feel like a princess and that i was the only one that mattered.
in my opinion you shouldn't slate the whole Berketex bride chain as people have different experiences at different stores, maybe we should be saying which City the bad stores are in so other brides know to stay clear of them?
the store i have ordered from is in Leicester City Centre and would definitley recommend them to any bride's to be out thereWeight loss so far 1st 12 1/2 lbs:j
