Me! On my budget, I had the choice between a spacious flat with 2 large double bedrooms in a nice area, or a pokey 2 bed terrace (small double and second bedroom a single, and tiny kitchen, and lounge) in a cr*p location...
Or I suppose I could have carried on renting, paying 15% more in rent that the interest on a mortgage would be...
I'm not sure who on earth would go for the terrace in this scenario!!
(and we're not talking pretty 2 bed victorian terrace either! those would be an extra 50%... it was a new-ish build terrace)
I'd still prefer the terraced house. Because it would have a garden, and the option to extend both into the garden & into the loft. It also would have no ground rent or communal maintenance fees, so you could decide when to spend your money on repairs, rather than having it dictated to you. But then I am a little biased as I seem to have met an unusually high number of terrible freeholders, and as such wouldn't contemplate buying leasehold again.0 -

Its not a nice experience at all.
I was carrying out an inspection on a repossession yesterday, when I went outside the house two doors up was in the process of being repossessed. I know what they paid for it a year ago & what it is likely to achieve on the open market & the difference runs to tens of thousands of pounds.0
