Mobile phone insurance???????????????????
Options
Has anyone had a company called Mitele from Rugby, call them on their mobile and say that carphone warehouse has given them your number and offer insurance? This has happened to my son, the phone is now broken and their seems to be problems with this company replacing the phone. I think he has been scammed! Any ideas what to do.

Mitele is a Call Centre and they deal with lots of companies, offering sales and customer support. I would think they are acting as an agent for whatever Insurer is providing the cover, so it doesn't follow that they would also be handling claims. You should really have a look at the documentation recieved at the time the policy was taken out for making your claim, and then follow it through!0

I appreciate your post but I have spoken to someone at the mitele number on the insurance document and it definately says they are the insurers, but they failed to pick up the returned phone as it has been returned to me by royal mail so strange. I have gave up ringing them, I have to rethink my next move. juicy jen0

Hi there, i have had a recent dealing with this company mitele, who took it upon themselves to withdraw £100 out of my account, i didnt realise who they were untill i saw the transaction on my bank statement, i rang the bank who cancelled my card and are looking into refunding me with my stolen money, it wasnt untill the bank asked if i had taken any new accounts out lately that i clicked that 3 days after opening a new contract at carphone wearhouse i recieved a call regarding insurance, they asked no details (ie bank etc, only the make of the phone and that they could possibly offer me cheaper insurance than o2) i said please can you forward details to me in the post so that i could look at them, they said they would phone me back.
I found their details through google and emailed them telling them it was basic theft as the payment wasn't authorised by me and mitele rang me the next day telling me they would refund the money, that was a week ago and still no cheque, they are now not replying to emails or phonecalls this tells us something that they are basically con artists! im sending them one last email threatning legal action and reports to the police, see if that gets their attention to phone back this time, lets not hold our breath0 -
hi guys,i have been dealing with the carphone warehouse for the past 5 yrs now,and every time i have trouble with my phone they tell me i have to take it in,for them to send it away for repair, which has taken upto 3 weeks.I also took a new phone out the other month and had lots of phone calls from different insurance companies.I took out my insurance with mitele which was one of payment of £80,then i read about them on this website and thought id been scammed! So when i lost my phone i thought id better phone them to see if they would valid their policy? So i phoned the claims number on the form and spoke to a lady, who said my new phone will be out in 24 hours, but it took an extra day to come than what i was told, and i believe this was better than nothing and the carphone warehouse.
To the guys who think they have been scammed i would keep on trying0 -
hi just to let you know since my last post, mitele have tried to take another payment from my account even after they said they would refund the last, luckily for me i cancelled my bank card with the bank because of these people so they were unlucky, however since then they are still not replying to emails or phone calls so the bank are forwarding this onto the police for fraud!

Hi
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but have a look at https://www.mobiletoday.co.uk at the Carphone Warehouse involved in Insurance Fraud Fix news bulliten.
Another reason to buy from the Largest trustworthy mobile phone retailer. NOT.
Carphone Warehouse customers who sign up to the retailer’s Lifeline insurance service have become targets for fraud, staff have told Mobile.
It is alleged that isolated numbers of staff within Carphone are involved in the scam and are giving away customers’ personal details to fraudsters.
Customers paying £120 per year for the Lifeline insurance service are tempted with an offer of cheaper insurance by fraudsters posing as insurance sellers, who then take their money without return.
The offending callers pose either as Carphone or network insurance sellers, and usually offer an insurance deal for £70 per year.
It is thought fraudsters also obtain customers’ personal information by signing up to a contract themselves. When given the option of a telephone number, they choose the first on the list and, as the numbers are sequential, this potentially gives the fraudster access to thousands of numbers.
One staffer said: ‘The problem goes in cycles and has been going on for about two years now. It’s been particularly bad again recently and I even had a call myself.’
Another staffer described the levels of customer information abuse as ‘ridiculous’ and said ‘everybody in the company knows it’s going on’.
A Carphone spokesperson said: ‘It has come to our attention that companies operating out of Swansea may have contacted a small number of our customers.
‘These companies purport to sell insurance policies but are not connected to the insurance policies we provide. It is our experience that a lot of these policies are in fact false and may leave customers without genuine cover.
‘We take these matters very seriously and provide suitable warnings against these parties in the accompanying sales literature we provide.
‘We have also registered our concerns with Swansea Trading Standards and the Financial Services Authority, the industry regulator.
‘Any customer who may be concerned about a policy they have purchased from Carphone Warehouse can contact us and we will be happy to assist them.’0 -

thank you!
I have just taken a call exactly like that one myself.
The caller is ringing back for me decision soon. that'll be NO thende do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
I would suggest you still keep an eye on your Bank account as it appears that as you have received a call, they may have your bank details already.
I cannot beleive the Fraud Sqaud and Information Commissioners Office are not involved, as this scam is obviously still going on and a bigger problem than CPW are making out.0 -
As previous people have advised this is a complete scam.
I work for O2 Insure, O2's own insurance and we have had several customer's phone in about mitele. I have seen a copy of their "Policies" they send out and they are the most budget produced documents I have seen. They do go for the hard sell by promising to be cheaper than whatever insurance you have and from my experience it isn't just limited to phones bought from CPW.
I have even spoken to them myself pretending to be a customer and the girl on the end of the phone admitted they get your details from when you forget to tick that little box saying you dont want your details passed on and they don't even know if you have insurance already they just promise cheaper insurance. At this point she sussed me out and started asking where i was calling from so I had to make my excuses!
O2 are fully aware of the situation and believe it or not they have to deal with hundreds of these cases. As soon as they shut one down another pops up. I would strongly advise any of you to report this to O2 immediately as they need the evidence to shut these people down.
Again stick to the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, it is!
Hope this helps some people.0 -
