Our water bill is HUGE! Does this sound right?

in Water bills
Sorry to start a new thread but don't want to take over someone else's post.
I have read with interest what everyone pays p/month for their water.
We are with Anglian Water on a meter and our bill is £52 p/month for 3 of us (and my daughter is only 2!!)
That ties in with the annual charge of around £600!!
I always thought that was a lot but now I am reading everyone else's post, mine seems massive! We do have a dishwasher on every night and do about 5 washes a week. My daughter has a mini bath every other night and we tend to take showers. We don't ever wash our car at home.
We have tried to make a real effort over the last 6 months to turn off tap whilst brushing teeth, not flushing loo during night etc etc but it hasn't made any difference.
Does anyone have any advice or think this seems a lot?
Thanks very much for reading!

Try living in Cornwall!!!!
My water bill for this year will be £75 per month!!!!!!!! Not on a meter. Would contemplate this but with four of us, a garden to water and a swimming pool in the summer months, it probably won't save very much. South West Water are about to be investigated for their high charges I believe.0 -
How many cubic meters of water are using on each bill, and what is the period covering that bill?
If your meter is easily accessible for reading, have you tried doing a check of usage over 24 hours, or even making sure everything inside is switched off and then if you are out for the day, checking it before you leave and when you return. This should help to see if you have a leak or someone else is also receiving water from your meter.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

At least you have a choice over a meter or a fixed rate. I'm metered and as such, do not even contemplate watering the garden, washing the car and whilst the weather here is not quite suitable for a pool, I doubt I could afford to fill much more than a kiddies paddling one.

Have you checked for leaks?
Turn off all water using items, and your main stopcock. Go and lift the cover on your water meter and check that it has stopped. If it has not you have a leak! Even a small leak will show up on your meter, they are very sensitive.
If you are in flats it is possible the meters are mixed up.
If you have a leak it will be your responsibility and your cost if the leak is inside your property boundary.
Hope that helps! If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Just another thought - do Anglian do your water AND sewerage?
If your gutters discharge into a soakaway, and not the surface water drain (sewer pipes) then you can claim a rebate BUT you may have to prove it!
Might save you some money...!If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Is that on a meter or a set figure bill? I'm with United Utilities also.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Wow - thanks for all the quick replies.
Our last bill which has just come through covers 1st August 07 - 18th Feb 08 and was 112m3. Now I don't have the first clue if that is alot or not!!
I will definitely check for leaks, thanks for the tip. And I am off to the GMTV website to have a quick nosey! Jan 2008-Paid 74% of debt as of MAR 2012 (DFD - APR 2014) DMP Support Thread Member 154  DFW Long Hauler 116

Interesting, do you know if this is the same for other companies, such as South East Water? (or Southern)0
