Did anyone have a "Research Machine Nimbus"? That's a really odd computer if ever there was one. Looked like a PC, ran DOS and even had a version of Windows written for it but wasn't remotely IBM compatible.0

I dont even think they teach binary any more in computer studies at school...
That's appalling if they don't. We even did binary arithmetic in maths lessons pre-GCSE and that was only the early to mid 90s never mind IT or computing."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Its ringing vague bells for me...
Anyone remember the Oric-1? Hailed as a direct rival to the Spectrum, they then made the Oric Atmos, then went bust....

Oooh...
My first introduction to puters was a 1k softkey Speccy that my Uncle used to type in and tape programs for. What you could do in the same memory taken up now with a Windows Shortcut....Fond memories...!
I learned BASIC on a BBC Microcomputer, taught my younger bro to program on the 128k integrated-tape-drive Spectrum that we then had and he soon left me way behind - he got into machine code and is still tapping away.
<goes all misty eyed> ...oh, those were the days...!If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

My bruvver had an Oric-1. I seem to remember weirdly small white keys on a blue-fascia keyboard. Not that I was allowed anywhere near it.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Pretty sure we had one at primary school."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I think I've still got my old Amstrad CPC 6128 in the loft, along with loads of "Amstrad Action" and "Amstrad Computer User" magazines. I can still remember typing in the 10-line programs from them - usually endless lines of hex numbers... and then spending hours debugging them!
I guess you've all seen this nostalgic YouTube video ("Hey, Hey 16k"):
